Who is Gideon in Wednesday?
Even though he was introduced as Bianca's estranged stepfather and the leader of the cult in Season 1, it is only in Wednesday Season 2 that we learn about his real identity and intentions.
In Wednesday Season 2, Episode 7, titled "Woe Is Me The Money," Gideon's real identity was revealed. Turns out, Gideon was an out-of-work actor who was working as a bartender in Florida when he first met Barry Dort. When Dort was ordering a drink, he recognized the former star and even said that he was charming.
Gideon introduced himself as Arnold Hunt (yes, that was his real name), a former theatre artist and a soap opera star. Dort manipulated Arnold Hunt, aka Gideon, to become the face of the cult, which would use the outcasts' power for their financial gains. Dort handed him an instruction manual and a book to make his vision look more convincing.
Dort hyped Hunt and said that he possessed the 'indefinable star quality' and would be the charming 'face of the movement'. On the other hand, Dort would be the main mastermind behind it, pulling the strings and guiding him. Hunt eventually agreed, and the rest is history.
But how did Arnold Hunt become Gideon? During their initial conversation, Arnold Hunt told Dort that he was part of a soap called Medical Opera and portrayed the role of Dr. Gideon Strerling, a recurring character. However, the makers decided to write off his character, and Arnold's career suffered a significant setback right after that. He decided to give up his acting dreams and moved back to Florida.
What happened to Gideon on Wednesday Season 2?
When Barry Dort realized that the wanted cult leader Gideon was alive and spotted in Vermont, he knew he had to act fast. Barry blackmailed Bianca, who then used her siren powers to manipulate Wednesday's grandmother's thoughts. Due to this, Wednesday's grandma made up her mind to donate her entire wealth to Nevermore.
Barry Dort brought Bianca and Gideon, aka Arnold Hunt, to discuss his plans to elope to Venezuela with the money. However, this time, Gideon disagreed with his stances since he was done being chased by the feds. Gideon threatened Dort that if he were caught, he would expose Dort's cult. Gideon asked for his share and told Dort that he wanted to leave the cult forever. Dort used his outcast powers to burn Gideon. He then threw Gideon's burning skeletal remains into the fireplace.
Gideon was nothing but a pawn in Barry Dort's master plan. From the beginning, Dort convinced him to join the movement as the face of it and manipulated him throughout. In the end, when Gideon wanted to part ways, Dort burned him to death.
