Wednesday has always given viewers some weird family dynamics. But nothing compares to that of Isaac Night and Francoise Galpin. The series hinted at secrets right from the beginning. It was deep within the Night and Galpin family. And when the truth came out, fans were left wondering even more. The relationship between Isaac and Francoise was not a typical one. The intensity made viewers uncomfortable and it started discussions.
In Wednesday Season 2, Isaac returns to the story as Slurp. He is the zombie who slowly regenerates into his original self. His resurrection brings him back to Francoise, his sister, and together they begin working on a plan that involves an old machine and the Hyde condition. Their interactions go far beyond what most would expect from siblings. The closeness between them and the way they spoke to each other made it feel more than just familial. Many fans even called it incestuous in tone. But the show never crossed that line directly.
Wednesday is all about gothic drama and dark secrets. But Isaac and Francoise’s arc takes the series into new territory. Their storyline extends beyond just curing Francoise or helping Tyler. It is about guilt, betrayal, and obsession. That is why their relationship is one of the most unsettling parts of the season.
Wednesday: Isaac and Francoise had an unsettling dynamic
Isaac Night was once a brilliant student at Nevermore. He loved his sister Francoise so much that he dedicated his work to saving her from her Hyde condition. He built a machine that could cure her. But the cost of it was deadly. Gomez was his best friend at the time. They were roommates and Isaac was meant to power the machine with Gomez's electrokinesis.
Isaac, however, had different plans. He did not tell Gomez that the process would kill him. When Morticia found out, she stopped Isaac by cutting off his hand. The machine exploded and Gomez lost his powers. Isaac died in the blast. His severed hand later became Thing, and his body was buried under the Skull Tree.
Years later, Isaac is resurrected as Slurp by Morticia and Gomez's son Pugsley. We all thought he would just be a side character in the story. But with every brain he consumed he grew stronger and began to remember who he was. This return also brought Francoise back into the picture. She was still suffering from her Hyde nature, which had driven her into Willow Hill. She still wanted to cure herself and hoped that her brother could finish what he had started. Their reunion was emotional and, for many viewers, disturbingly intimate.
Their plan was dangerous. Isaac rebuilt the machine and decided to use Pugsley’s powers as the energy source. Francoise supported him because she was desperate to cure herself. Though later we find out that she actually wanted to cure her son. Tyler, however, resisted. He did not want to lose his Hyde powers. Wednesday, Morticia, and Gomez are pulled into the mess as they try to rescue Pugsley.
A lot of viewers felt that Isaac and Francoise’s bond in Wednesday did not look like a normal brother and sister relationship. When they came back together, the way they hugged, looked at each other, and spoke felt strange. It looked romantic at times and that made people uncomfortable. Many fans started saying their scenes gave off an incest vibe.
Wednesday never made them act like a couple. But the closeness between them was too much for many to ignore. Francoise leaned on Isaac more than anyone else and maybe a bit too much. Isaac’s obsession with saving her was extreme. He also admitted in one of the scenes that she is the only person he has ever really loved. They way he wrapped his arms around her and immediately pulled away when Tyler arrived said a lot more than is actually shown in the series.
This made their connection look different from how siblings usually behave. That is why people saw their relationship as incestuous in feeling, even if it was not directly shown.
The finale of Wednesday Season 2 showed how tragic their bond was. Isaac reattached Thing to himself, only for Thing to regain control and end Isaac once and for all. Francoise transformed into her Hyde form. But ultimately fell to her death. This storyline was all about love, obsession, and desperation.
