Netflix's crime drama series Ozark concluded in 2022 after four seasons. Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, the series gained widespread popularity and critical praise. With an 82% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb, Ozark is easily considered one of the most-watched crime dramas. The synopsis, as per IMDb, reads,
"A financial advisor drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder money to appease a drug boss."
Among the various characters introduced in the series, Omar Navarro stood out as a ruthless cartel leader. However, due to betrayal within his family and shifting loyalties, he was arrested in Season 4.
In the finale of Ozark Season 4, Omar Navarro is killed during a staged prison transfer orchestrated by his sister Camila Elizonndro to make it look like a failed escape. Later, we learn that Camila had struck a counter deal with the FBI to cement her position in the cartel and, in turn, provide them with intel.
Omar Navarro's rule in Ozark ends with betrayal from his own bloodline. Once the feared leader of the Navarro cartel, he dreamed of trading his criminal empire for immunity and freedom. But power shifts are brutal in cartel politics. His sister Camilia saw him as the last obstacle in her path. In the final act, Navarro is gunned down during the staged prison transfer. The officer transporting him kills the driver, asks Omar to escape, and hands him a gun. He utters,
"Come here. There's a car half a mile up the road. It will take you to a plane."
Omar trusts the officer, but as soon as he takes a few steps forward, the officer points his gun at him. Omar tries to shoot, only to realize the gun is empty. Accepting his fate, Omar is gunned down by the officer.
