What happens to Agent Blythe in Countdown Episode 8? Character's fate, explored 

Countdown Episode 8 has the perfect buildup and impeccably portrays Volchek's origin story - why he turned into the evil person he is in the present day. His antagonist arc seems to be the main driving force of Countdown's plot right now, and as it appears, Volchek is someone who leaves no stones unturned.

Every person who stands between him and his terror plot (to blow up Los Angeles) is a threat, and he is ready to go to any lengths to neutralize them. Special Agent Nathan Blythe is an individual who is willing to risk even his own life to stop the attack, and thus, our Belarusian villain finds the perfect opportunity to strike him. Let's find out what happens in Countdown Episode 8.

Does Agent Blythe die in Countdown Episode 8? Here's what we know so far

Countdown Episode 8, "The Nail in the Chair," ends on an intense note with flashbacks from Volchek's past, where he orchestrated his own death. On the other hand, the task force is seen chasing one lead after another, and it naturally becomes exhausting for them.

While the rest of the team (after a tiring raid at Santa Barbara) retires for the night, Agent Blythe seems to be on the tip of his senses. Thanks to his connections in Washington, D.C., Blythe is able to create political pressure on Astapov to get crucial information on Volchek (Astapov was absolutely stubborn at first).

But once he agrees, Blythe sets up a rendezvous with the Belarusian Consulate official at the 3rd and Hill Crossing. However, little did he know that only danger was awaiting him that night.

As Agent Blythe turns up at the decided spot for the meeting (a dark alley with not a soul around), he finds a car standing in the middle of the road - door wide open. The moment he peeks inside, we are taken aback by a shocking revelation.

Iosif Astapov is seen lying dead in the driver's seat. A realization dawns on Blythe, and he turns back to retreat at that very moment, but bad luck seemed to have found him. The Belarusian antagonist Borys Volchek makes his "out of the blue" appearance at the scene, stabs Blythe, and recedes into the dark of the night.

Countdown Episode 8 leaves a big question mark about what happens next to Agent Blythe - him being the leader of the task force; things now look even more difficult for the team of misfit experts. While speculation is building up around his possible (shocking) death, there are chances that he makes it out.

From a creative point of view, Damon's death earlier in Countdown Episode 4 already came unexpectedly, and one more character being written off would be too much to handle. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the next person in charge, Mark (for obvious reasons), has also been afflicted with a terminal brain disease. So, Blythe's return is something viewers are eagerly waiting for.
