In this series, both Jane and the FBI team race against time to solve the clues and stop the crime.
So if you are looking for something gripping, intense, and at the same time might blow your mind, Blindspot is a perfect pick.
In Blindspot, the web of government conspiracies begins to unravel early on, and one of the first major revelations that's tied to Jane Doe's tattoos is the controversial and illegal surveillance program called Project Daylight.
What is Project Daylight in NBC's crime thriller Blindspot?
Project Daylight, as shown in Blindspot, is a covert, high-stakes operation involving the White House, CIA, and FBI. At its core, it is an illegal NSA surveillance initiative that gathers data from citizens- wiretaps, emails, financial records- everything- then fabricates informants to justify arrests and secure convictions using intelligence without warrants.
In simple words, since the illegally obtained information cannot be presented in the courts, the team faked the intel's sources and planted fake informants for the conviction to look real.
At the centre of this illegal surveillance program was Bethany Mayfair, the Assistant Director of the FBI. She used Saul Guerrero, the leader of a notorious gang, Nuestra Sangre, as her informant to convict people. When Guerrero is arrested and fails to identify her, the ruse collapses, exposing the scandal. Mayfair thus comes clean to Kurt Weller about Project Daylight.
Mayfair's worries continue to grow as Sophia Varma, the political director of the White House and an ally of the program, dies by suicide. In reality, Varma faked her death, escaped the country, and joined a terrorist organization called Sandstorm.
By mid-season 1, Project Daylight becomes one of the pivotal catalysts behind Jane Doe's tattoos, with each clue revealing a broader conspiracy tied to government surveillance and corruption. As Weller and the team try their best to unearth the operation, they wrestle with a moral and legal dilemma-knowing that the exposure of the scandal might set several notorious criminals free.
Thomas Carter, the deputy director of the CIA, was also an ally for the Project Daylight, similar to Bethany Mayfair and Sofia Varma. When the project was shut down, Carter grew nervous, and he devised a plan to kill Jane Doe because he thought that her tattoos would give further clues to expose the illegal surveillance program. When he was about to kill Jane, Oscar saved her and killed Carter.
Soon, Mayfair was framed and was arrested for killing Thomas Carter. Before her death at the hands of Oscar, she left behind a USB drive containing proof about Daylight to help the team.
