With Klaus's introduction in The Vampire Diaries, the vampire-werewolf lore of the supernatural series expanded in a way that paved the way for more spinoffs in the coming years. Klaus, or Niklaus Mikaelson, was one of the original vampires and a hybrid.

He was first mentioned in Episode 8 of Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries. However, he took over Alaric’s body in later episodes to access information that could harm his plan to reawaken his werewolf side and also help him get back to his original body.

When does Klaus appear in The Vampire Diaries? Details explored

Klaus takes over his real body, played by Joseph Morgan, in Episode 19, titled Klaus. Even before he inhabits his body, Klaus is considered the ultimate villain of the supernatural series.

He first possesses Alaric (Matt Davis) in Episode 17, and through his twisted methods of torturing people, learns about Bonnie (Kat Graham), the powerful witch who could pose a threat to him as he tries to raise his hybrid army after breaking his mother's curse.

In this episode, Elena (Nina Dobrev) learns about the vulnerability of the original vampire. Through numerous narrations by Elijah (Daniel Gillies) about his family history, the audience discovers the history of the original vampires through flashback scenes. Elijah tells Elena that Klaus was his stepbrother and also a hybrid, since his father was a werewolf.

However, their mother cast a curse on him that prevented him from transforming into a werewolf. Klaus has been trying to reignite that part of himself and build an army of hybrids, just like him. Additionally, Elijah told Elena that the only weakness Klaus has is a dagger covered with white ash, which cannot kill Klaus like it does with other Originals, such as himself.

He informs her that Klaus’s transformation into a werewolf, which occurs on a full moon, is his only vulnerable moment, when a powerful witch can target him to finally end him. While Elena and the Salvatores learn how to kill Klaus, Elijah finally discovers a way to do so without harming Elena. Meanwhile, Klaus returns to his original body. With Kalus and Elijah, more of the Mikaelson family joined in to create mayhem in Mystic Falls.

Klaus’s arrival caused more problems in Mystic Falls, but it also delivered one of the best character arcs in the Supernatural series by showing a more complex and flawed character in Morgan’s Klaus, who at times angered us but also made us sympathetic towards him.

Aside from Nina Dobrev and Joseph Morgan, The Vampire Diaries also featured Paul Wesley, Steven R. McQueen, Ian Somerhalder, Candice King, and others. Keep checking Soap Central for more stories like this.
