Solar Opposites has emerged in recent years as one of the more unique animated sitcoms in modern TV, quite literally mixing sharp social satire with absurd science-fiction comedy. Since the show’s premiere in May 2020, it has found a dedicated following that appreciates its irreverence, satire, and heartfelt character arcs.
Developed by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, the series centers on a group of aliens as they attempt to settle in suburban America, which results in a never-ending supply of comedic situations. With the series ramping into its sixth and final season, there is more excitement than ever for how everyone’s favorite aliens take it all home.
Now, with Season 6 having been confirmed as the final chapter, fans are sitting on both that Hulu finale and a surprise streaming development over at Netflix that is only making it all the more exciting.
When does Solar Opposites start streaming on Netflix?
In an announcement, Netflix has decided to launch all of Solar Opposites in the US on 28th September 2025. Multiple seasons are coming to the platform, although how many is currently undetermined. The early signals are that at least two seasons will be part of it, and possibly more. What is less clear is how long the show will continue to be available on Netflix, since licensing agreements have not been made public yet.
This timing also comes as Hulu is all set to launch the sixth and final season of Solar Opposites in October. All ten episodes will be released at once, concluding the animated journey of the alien family. The Netflix debut is likely to expand the show’s audience, enticing new viewers while letting longtime ones catch up on past story lines ahead of the finale. The multiplatform launch shows how streamers are finding ways to coexist and help each other in a bid for more eyeballs.
Solar Opposites Season 6: Co-creators weigh in on the latest Season
The creative team behind Solar Opposites has been candid about the show’s conclusion. In its five seasons, the show has pushed beyond storytelling limits to confront issues like consumerism and what it means to be a friend. Speaking to Collider at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, co-creator Mike McMahan admitted that the show is ending. He explained:
“We got six seasons in a really weird time. We did this through the pandemic. We break all the rules all the time. We always got to do exactly the stuff we wanted to do. We found an even better show than it was when it started, which is just a really great feeling. I’ll miss it, but I truly don't believe, with animation, anything is ever 100% over. I've just seen it happen so many times that things come back in different forms in different places. I would greatly like to do more.”
In another interview with Screenrant, McMahan described that the last Season does provide the ending that the show deserves. He revealed:
“Six seasons is kind of a miracle to get. We could keep making the show, and you'll see that this season feels like this is our Fellowship of the Ring. It's the end of the first book. We could keep going, but it's a really satisfying ending.”
Solar Opposites is beloved not just for its chaos and humour but also for the perspective it provides on issues like family, assimilation, and surviving against all odds.
What is Solar Opposite about?
Solar Opposites follows the story of four aliens, Korvo, Terry, Jesse, and Yumyulack, who escape their home planet before it blows up and crash-land in a suburban American neighborhood. Their job is to protect the Pupa, a living supercomputer that will eventually terraform Earth.
That blend of sharp satire, outrageous escapades, and emotional character growth has helped Solar Opposites stand out in the crowded field of animated comedies. With the final season on the horizon and a Netflix debut providing a new way to watch, fans can anticipate an unforgettable finale that is very much in keeping with the show’s unpredictable nature.
