If your travel plans for the coming year did not come to fruition, worry not. Netflix's upcoming K-drama Can This Love Be Translated? promises to immerse you in scenic locations, picturesque views and a charming tour of countries like Italy, Japan and Canada. Considering the Global appeal of the project, the K-drama is not filmed in any one location but offers the grandeur of many beautiful countries.

Japan

As Ho-jin and Mu-hee will fall in love while filming a TV show across the globe, Can This Love Be Translated? will take its audience along for the ride. The principal photography for Netflix's K-drama began in June 2024, following which both Seon-ho and Youn-jung were spotted filming in Japan.

A group of fans spotted the actors' arrival in Japan, confirming the filming schedule. According to reports, Seon-ho was spotted filming at Enoshima, a small offshore island at the Katase River in Japan. Since small and cozy productions like Can This Love Be Translated? often rely on offbeat locations like peaceful islands, Enoshima feels like the perfect spot. Additionally, the production also performed a traditional ritual in the country for good luck. Given Seon-ho’s multilingual character and his fluency in Japanese, viewers can likely look forward to a special Japan-centric element in the K-drama.

The series wrapped its filming schedule in Japan on July 10.

Canada

The next stop in Ho-jin and Mun-hee's love story was Canada as Can This Love Be Translated? crew shifted to Alberta from September 23 to October 11. Fans wanting to escape to the picturesque view and winter imagery of the Maple country should tune in to Netflix's latest K-drama, which was filmed in popular Canadian towns like Alberta, Canmore and Banff.

According to a report by St. Albert Gazette, Jason Darrah, director of communications and marketing for the Town of Banff, appreciated the K-drama production's stay in their town and for supporting their economy in the usually dull Fall season. Darrah said:

“In addition to showcasing our community in Korea during the beautiful fall season, with lower visitation, the production will involve a crew of up to 150 people for a few days, representing a beneficial impact on the shoulder-season economy.''

Can This Love Be Translated? hired a crew and cast of almost 150 people, who were accommodated for 525-night stays in local hotels, contributing to the country's economy.

Other filming locations for Canada included Banff’s pedestrian bridge, along the Three Sisters Parkway and Lake Louise. Seon-ho and Youn-jung even shared pictures (on social media) of their experience seeing the aurora in the country while filming for the K-drama.

The rapidly changing filming locations for Can This Love Be Translated? highlight the uncertainty and instability of Ho-jin and Mu-hee's professions, which will naturally affect their budding romance.

Each setting becomes a narrative device, drawing in travel-loving viewers while anchoring the emotional journey of the lead couple.
