After Fire Country, Sheriff Country is here to impress the audience. The CBS series revolves around Sheriff Mickey Fox, who investigates crimes while also dealing with struggles in her personal life.
Not only does she have to deal with her father, who happens to be a former conman, but she also has to help out her daughter, whose life is spiraling out of control. Like Fire Country, its spin-off also follows a procedural format.
While the original series is set in the town of Edgewater, fans have been left wondering where the events of Sheriff Country take place. Well, the series is set in the same town as the original show, i.e., in Edgewater.
The setting of Sheriff Country
Sheriff Country is set in the town of Edgewater. It is a fictional place, which, as per the franchise’s lore, is located in Northern California. Fire Country creators took inspiration from the real towns in Northern California, which are prone to wildfires, and set the show in the same region.
The spin-off then followed suit and now tells the story of Mickey Fox, the Sheriff of Edgewater. Over the years, the town has become a character in itself in Fire Country. As Bode comes back to the town looking for a second chance in life, Edgewater becomes a symbol of struggle, redemption, and hope. The forests, roads, and fire camps of the town show the challenges the firefighters face every day.
Meanwhile, Edgewater’s constant threat of wildfires keeps everyone on edge and reminds everyone how quickly life can change. At the same time, the place also represents the spirit of community and depicts firefighters' courage. Hence, Edgewater is the heart and soul of Fire Country, and with Sheriff Country being set in the same town, its significance is only going to increase in the franchise.
However, even though the two shows are set in the same town, they are shot in different locations. While the filming of Fire Country is carried out in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the spin-off is shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The filming location was shifted from Vancouver to Toronto as the lead actress, Morena Baccarin, is based in New York City and did not want to move far away from her family for the shoot. Hence, the producers decided to film the show in Toronto, which is closer to NYC than Toronto.
Sheriff Country stars Morena Baccarin as Mickey Fox, along with W. Earl Brown as Wes Fox, Michele Weaver as Cassidy Campbell, Amanda Arcuri as Skye Fraley, Christopher Gorham as Travis Fraley, Matt Lauria as Nathan Boone, Caroline Rhea as Gina, and Tony White as Jerry. The official synopsis of the series reads:
“Morena Baccarin stars as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone. She investigates criminal activity while she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater, contending with her ex-con father, Wes, who is an off-the-grid marijuana grower, and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter. Sheriff Country is an expansion of the universe of the hit drama series Fire Country.”
Sheriff Country airs new episodes on CBS on Fridays.
