Where was The Accident filmed?

Tepoztlán, Morelos

The majority of the filming for The Accident took place in a mountain town in the state of Morelos called Tepoztlán (also known as one of the best Pueblo Mágicos). It's only an hour's drive from Mexico City.

The filming for the first season started in September 2023. Turns out many interior shots were filmed in real residences.

The series constantly showcases the Tepozteco Mountains. It's present as a silent backdrop that enhances each scene. This also becomes the emotional shorthand. The characters carry grief; the mountain carries its own weight above them.

Several of Tepoztlán's landmarks also appear throughout the series. For instance, the El Tepozteco pyramid, the Ex Convento Museum, and the Temple and Old Convent of the Nativity all appear in glimpses that help anchor the story. These sites carry centuries of history, and their presence uplifts the plot.

The show also films in actual residential areas where narrow, uneven cobblestone streets and bright houses are a fit for the Mexican thriller. The families' emotional collisions feel sharper because the environment is so tight and tense.

Things to do when in Tepoztlán

Tepoztlán is a perfect weekend getaway for Mexico City residents. It takes only an hour drive or so to reach the beautiful, quaint town. Whether you are a history nerd or a nature lover, or even a party animal, Tepoztlán has everything for you. During the week, the town's usually quiet, but on weekends it transforms into a buzzing tourist destination. The series incorporates both moods. Scenes shot on quieter weekdays feel tense in a low, simmering way. Characters are alone with their thoughts, walking streets that are nearly empty. Weekend sequences, on the other hand, carry a different vibe. The noise, the environment, and chatter, all of it, form a pressure that amplifies the conflict. The town's natural rhythm becomes part of the narrative's pacing.

For accommodation, you can choose from a wide variety of hotels and resorts a sper your budget. The town offers budget stays, too. You can simply stroll around the town, discover the art and history, or shop around. For the adventure enthusiasts, you can hike to El Tepozteco, an Aztec archaeological site, or take a ride to Dilao or Amatlan.

Tepoztlán isn't new to film crews. Projects like Clear and Present Danger, The Arrival, and The Long Goodbye have shots scenes here. But The Accident uses the town differently. It doesn't treat the location just as a backdrop. It folds the story into the town's existing character.

The emotional weight of the series depends heavily on where it is filmed. You feel the isolation of the valley, the way the mountains enclose the town, the spiritual calm undercut by human conflict. The series would not land the same way if it were filmed anywhere else.

And that's the point. In The Accident, Tepoztlán is not where the story happens. It's why the story feels personal, so raw and so embedded in real human life.

Some portions of the series were also filmed in Mexico, North America.
