The Outsider takes place in a small town haunted by something far darker than mere secrets, but where was all that eeriness brought to life?
The show, adapted from Stephen King's novel, was shot in multiple parts of Georgia, with key scenes filmed in Winder, Canton, Stockbridge, and Atlanta. Some scenes were even filmed in New York City. But don't be fooled by its fictional town of Cherokee Creek - that's only an illusion made up using real towns in Georgia.
Let's take a look at the actual filming locations that helped make the unsettling world of The Outsider come together.
Where was The Outsider filmed?
1) Winder, Georgia
One of The Outsider's key locations, the fictional Cherokee Creek, is actually Winder, a real town located east of Atlanta. You might not recognize it immediately, but scenes with courthouse drama and the neighborhood were all filmed here.
The Barrow County Historic Courthouse temporarily became the Cherokee County Courthouse, offering a convincing backdrop for various courtroom scenes involving Terry Maitland.

Winder's streets also helped bring to life many day-to-day scenes. The grocery store parking lot is the Quality Foods store in Winder. A few streets, like Broad Street and Athens Street, were also briefly shut down for filming.
Even buildings, such as the old Maddox Building and Sharpton Opera House, can be seen throughout the series. Winder offered the ideal quiet-town vibe while hiding the chaos brewing underneath.
2) Canton, Georgia
Some of the series' quieter yet eerier moments were filmed in Canton, a city in Cherokee County. Here, both the cemetery and baseball scenes were filmed. These settings weren't just picked for atmosphere - they played a direct role in the story's unsettling investigation and emotional unraveling.

The production leaned into Canton's local charm while using it to serve the storyline's more mysterious scenes. The small town of Canton provided the perfect mask for something much more disturbing.
You wouldn't think twice about a baseball field or a hilltop cemetery until The Outsider makes you look again. The Canton Village Shopping Center also appears in a few sequences, helping weave the scene together without drawing too much attention.
3) Stockbridge, Georgia
While most of the series quietly builds on the dread, one of the show's more intense standoff scenes was filmed in Stockbridge, in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
A police scene featuring SWAT teams and simulated gunfire unfolded in the city parking lot of Jim Clark Drive. The production had to coordinate with local authorities due to the scale of this shoot.

Nearby streets were closed temporarily while emergency vehicles and uniformed officers played out their roles. With sirens blaring and snipers taking positions, Stockbridge offered a sharp shift in tone for the series, creating a sudden jolt of action in the middle of a story built on suspense.
The choice of location helped amplify the shock value of the sequence without needing over-the-top effects.
4) Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta also played an important role in the filming of the series. Different neighborhoods across the city provided settings for several episodes. From the Old Fourth Ward and Grant Park to tucked-away spots like Lawrenceville and Tucker, the show dipped into various parts of the city to create its layered, shifting backdrop.

One standout spot includes the Vaughters' Farmhouse in Lithonia, used for the barn scene. Meanwhile, Wesley Woods Towers on Clifton Road acted as the nursing home where Holly visits during her investigation.
Locations like the Town Square Center in Tucker and a few houses in the Buckhead and Cheshire Bridge areas were also used to expand the story's reach without ever having to leave Georgia.
5) New York
Though Georgia dominated most of the production, a key bar scene was filmed far north in New York. The real-life Mr. McGoo's Pub, found at 5602 Broadway in the Bronx, appeared in one episode, albeit slightly altered.

The crew edited signs and decor digitally, but the community mural style vibe remained. It's one of the few scenes set outside Georgia but blends into the rest of the story.
The Outsider might tell the story of a cursed small town, but its haunting presence was brought to life by filming locations across multiple places. Each place added layers to the series' unsettling tone and mood.
The show proves that location isn't just a backdrop; it's part of the storytelling and always will be.
