The Survivors dropped on Netflix on June 6, 2025 with all 6 of its episodes releasing simultaneously. This tightly knit thriller, based on the book of the same name by author Jane Harper, tells the story of a man who comes back to his hometown after 15 years with memories of tragedy that he has still not come to terms with.

As Kieran Elliott returns to Evelyn Bay after 15 years with his family, he is reminded again of the tragedy that claimed the lives of three people close to him, including his own brother. As another tragedy takes place after his return, old wounds are dug up again and new secrets come to light, forming a compelling narrative that is bound to keep the viewers hooked.

Since this is an Australian drama mini series, the shooting locations have been in Australia, which further added to the depth and tension of the narrative. Let us now explore in detail the places where The Survivors was filmed.

The Survivors filming locations

Greater Hobart, Australia

For showcasing the fictional town of Evelyn Bay, where The Survivors is predominantly set, the crew selected Hobart, Tasmania’s capital city. It is not a hugely populated location and thus the loneliness of the landscape was well captured through the scenes shot here. Aside from the outdoor shoots, the team also took the help of studio settings for the indoor scenes based here.

Freycinet Peninsula, Australia

Certain scenes of the show were shot at Freycinet Peninsula, part of the Freycinet National Park. Besides the Freycinet National Park, which has been a topic of discussion because of its ecology, certain shots also included Great Oyster Bay, as the Hazards mountain range could be viewed from there. Both these locations are visually extremely pleasing, which further added to the aesthetics of the show.

Eaglehawk Neck, Australia

Since The Survivors has a consistently brooding tone, the crew naturally selected landscapes that would go with the theme. Therefore, Tasmania’s east-coast has been used indulgently for outdoor sequences.

A scenic coastal village named Eaglehawk Neck served as the location for scenes that largely featured the sea and cliffs. The Tasman Sea, the peninsula, and the Norfolk Bay, all work together contributing to the tense and melancholy theme that runs throughout the show.

Melbourne, Australia

As reported by Moviedelic, certain sequences featuring the sea were shot at a studio in Melbourne. The studio in question is The Docklands Studios and other projects like Clickbait, La Brea, Preacher etc have been shot there previously. With two of the six stages in the studio having waterproof pits to shoot scenes in water, the studio served as the perfect location to bring those scenes to life.

With the help of the high quality post-production support that the studio offers, the scenes shot inside appear extremely realistic, without letting the viewers understand that they not have been shot at an actual sea.
