Upload has come to an end on Prime Video after an exciting journey of four seasons. Ever since the beginning, the show has been famous for its visuals as it portrays the afterlife in a way that has never been done before.
The show revolves around Nathan Brown, a 27-year-old computer engineer, whose mind is uploaded to a virtual afterlife after his death. The narrative mostly takes place at Lakeview, a luxurious digital hotel.
This makes one wonder where Upload was filmed. So here are all the details you need about the filming locations of the sci-fi comedy drama.
Upload filming locations
Upload has been filmed at the following locations:
1. Mohonk Mountain House, New York
The Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York, stands in for the Lakeview Hotel. Exteriors of this huge Victorian-style resort are used to showcase the outside visuals of the digital hotel where Nathan lives in the afterlife.
Surrounded by forests and sitting near Mohonk Lake, the castle-like hotel looks almost magical, which makes it the perfect spot to showcase a place like heaven. Even though the crew only filmed here for a few days, the location has been etched in the viewers’ minds.
2. Fairway Market, New York
Nora’s apartment and job location in Upload are shown using the Fairway Market building in Brooklyn, New York. The market sits on the Hudson River waterfront, giving the crew wide shots of Manhattan’s skyline. While the interior shots of Nora’s home and office were filmed in Vancouver studios, this building portrays the exteriors of her apartment.
3. Castle Green, California
Castle Green is a historic building in Pasadena, California, built in 1898. It was used in the pilot episode of the show for the inside shots of the Lakeview Hotel. The castle is known for its mix of Victorian, Spanish, and Moorish architectural styles. After filming the pilot, the production team built a copy of Castle Green’s lobby in Vancouver to use for the rest of the series.
4. Vancouver, Canada
Upload has also been shot extensively in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The cast and crew shot across various places in the city, including the Stanley Park Pavilion, which was used to demonstrate Lakeview’s funeral scenes and chapel.
The ballroom inside, called Lord Stanley’s Ballroom, appeared as a place where people in the digital afterlife and their families could gather. Built in 1911, this historic building is surrounded by gardens in one of Vancouver’s most famous parks.
Another famous location in Vancouver that is featured in the show is Cecil Green Park House. This Tudor-style mansion is located near the University of British Columbia, and its gardens and outdoor spaces were utilized to shoot various scenes of the show.
Additionally, the exterior of Horizen’s office building was filmed at 100 Powell Street in Gastown, and some scenes involving car chases and stunts were shot in Chinatown, Vancouver. In Season 3, Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre can also be noticed. Built in 1927, this historic concert hall is famous for its grand design and detailing.
5. Burnaby, Canada
Burnaby, a city near Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, also served as a filming location for the series. The Deer Lake Park, located in the city, was used for the dock scenes at Lakeview. The park has a quiet lake surrounded by trails and forest, which makes it a scenic filming spot.
All seasons of Upload are streaming on Prime Video.
