Peacemaker actor John Cena has a unique wish for the acclaimed DC show. He revealed the one character that he wants Christopher Smith to share the screen with in the DCU: Batman. While the choice of character is not that unusual, what's unique is that Cena doesn't care which actor dons the cape and cowl in the DCU. This is not surprising, considering the DCU Batman remains uncast as of today.

Cena expressed his hope at Fan Expo Boston, which was held between August 8 and 10, 2025. In that panel, someone asked John Cena which actor he saw as the DCU Batman to share the screen with. This is where the wrestler-turned-actor revealed to the fans that all he cared for was to see the Peacemaker share screen with the Caped Crusader rather than one specific actor.

What did Peacemaker star John Cena say?

When asked which actor is his prefereence to play Batman in the DCU, John Cena's exact response was:

“Gosh, I would just like to see Peacemaker and Batman in the same room. I don’t care who Batman is. I might get one of my younger brothers to put on a Batman costume. I’ll steal the Peacemaker outfit just so we can make it happen. I don’t know. I don’t know, but I know that there’s a lot of interest around both characters.”

Cena's position is refreshing because, unlike the usual fan castings, all he cares about is the chance to share the screen space with the character rather than one particular actor. This also indicates that the people working in the DCU care more about the script for a project. James Gunn has stated in the past that no DCU project will begin production until the script is complete.

As of now, the script for The Brave and the Bold, the DCU Caped Crusader project, is still being written. James Gunn himself revealed that he was having trouble with the script of the movie in a June Rolling Stone interview:

"Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts."

Thus, it looks like Bat-Fans will have to wait for a while to see the DCU project headlined by The Dark Knight. But not everything is doom and gloom for the DCU, as Superman is beloved, and fans are waiting for John Cena's return as Christopher Smith.

Cena will return as Christopher Smith next week:

The acclaimed HBO Max series, headlined by John Cena's Christopher Smith, will follow the down-on-his-luck Chris discovering an alternate Earth in which he is respected. Based on the trailer, it seems that Chris from the main universe attempts to steal his alternate self's life.

"In season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands."

The John Cena-led HBO Max DC series will begin streaming on the OTT platform from August 21, 2025.
