The DCU Batman project, The Brave and the Bold, received a hopeful update in a recent Omelete interview. When asked about how many scripts featuring the character he is expecting to read in the coming months, Gunn responded that he expects to read not one but two scripts. However, he supposedly clarified that scripting, while not complete, is close to completion.

It must be noted that last week, on June 28, 2025, Matt Reeves confirmed that he completed the script for the long-awaited sequel, The Batman: Part II. The script for The Brave and the Bold, on the other hand, has a yet-unknown writer who is working with none other than Gunn. This was confirmed by Gunn during the February 2025 press conference.

A few days ago, Gunn, David Corenswet, and Rachel Brosnahan sat down for an interview with the Brazilian entertainment portal Omelete to promote Superman, which is due to release on July 11. There, Gunn was asked about the DCU version of the Caped Crusader. Gunn was specifically asked how many film scripts featuring The Dark Knight he expected to read in the coming months.

To this, Gunn's answer was a simple "two".

This means that while The Batman: Part II script is finished, The Brave and the Bold script is still being worked on. Simultaneously, it is imperative to note that this interview may have taken place before Matt Reeves confirmed that the script for Part II was complete on June 28, 2025.

If the script for The Brave and the Bold is indeed nearing completion, then it means that we can expect the DCU version of the Batman project to be released somewhere in the next two years. This means that the project featuring DC's flagship hero might finally be moving.

The wait for this version of the Caped Crusader has been long

While we got a glimpse of the DCU version of the Caped Crusader in Creature Commandos Episode 6, we haven't heard much of this version of the character since then. Just a few days after the episode's release, the director of The Brave and the Bold, Andy Muschietti went on to a podcast in which he went on to hint that progress on the project was slow.

Firstly, Muschietti hinted at a 2027 release window for Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part II. He also mentioned DC's release strategy for the two different projects featuring different versions of the same character: They would avoid releasing the two films simultaneously, so as to avert a conflict between the two. The Flash filmmaker's exact words were:

"Releasing two Batman films simultaneously would be counterproductive. What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure these two films don’t conflict with each other. Regarding my involvement in the project, there are good intentions for now. They want to do the movie with me, and I want to do it as well. I’m eager to work on the film. We are talking about the story and the tone."

The "good intentions" part has fans wondering if the IT director will end up directing The Brave and the Bold or not.
