There is one particular Peacemaker Season 1 actor that James Gunn wouldn't mind bringing into the DCU. The said actor is none other than Chukwudi Iwuji. If you remember, Iwuji had played the role of Clemson Murn/Ik Nobe Lok in season 1. However, Murn dies in the seventh episode of the first season, "Stop Dragon My Heart Around".
Now, in the fifth episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn, James Gunn revealed that he would be happy to bring back Iwuji in the DCU, despite his character's death in the first season. In addition to Jennifer Holland, James Gunn, and Steve Agee, the usual podcast hosts, the fifth episode also featured Chukwudi Iwuji as a guest.
In this episode, James Gunn specifically addressed the issue of Murn's death in season 1, episode 7.
What did James Gunn say about Ik Nobe Lok/Clemson Murn's death in Peacemaker Season 1, Episode 7?
As mentioned before, Chukwudi Iwuji was a guest in the fifth episode of the rewatch podcast, Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn. The fifth episode of the podcast discussed the fifth episode of the first season, "Monkey Dory". At one point in this 47-minute, 24-second rewatch episode, Gunn revealed that while the character of Murn is canon to the DCU, his face might not be set in stone. The filmmaker's exact words were:
"I think Clemson Murn is canon. Maybe his face might not be canon if we want to cast [Chukwudi Iwuji] as something else in the DCU. But also, Chuk could end up being some other character maybe that isn't so humanoid."
Firstly, we should understand that this quote doesn't mean that Iwuji is joining the DC Universe. Gunn just revealed how he would explain Chukwudi Iwuji's presence in a DCU project if the actor were to be cast in it. This is not surprising considering Peacemaker Season 2 includes Michael Rooker, who already appeared in The Suicide Squad.
Michael Rooker's presence in Peacemaker Season 2 explains Chukwudi Iwuji's possible inclusion in the DCU:
Actor Michael Rooker is going to play the role of an original Red St. Wild in the second season of the John Cena-led HBO Max DC series. However, before that, Rooker had played the role of Brian Durlin/Savant in 2021's The Suicide Squad, which was also directed by James Gunn. The 2021 movie, which also introduced John Cena's anti-hero, showed Rooker's character getting killed.
But now, Rooker is returning to play a completely different, original character in the HBO Max series. Thus, if Chukwudi Iwuji were to return, then something similar could happen.
However, even if it were to happen, which role could he play in the DCU?
In May 2023, actor Chukwudi Iwuji was interviewed by ComicBook.com’s Phaze Zero podcast, in which the British actor revealed the one character he would like to play in James Gunn's DCU: Etrigan the Demon. The actor said this:
'‘This character… this is Jeykll and Hyde in the DC world. So Etrigan. If you told me to name one it would be Etrigan. Like I just love the idea of having two people existing in one. That’d be my DC one. Etrigan.”
