Hulu's beloved mystery comedy series Only Murders in the Building (OMITB) is back with Season 5, which premiered its first three episodes on September 9, 2025. The Emmy-nominated series follows the true-crime obsessed trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez), who become friends while investigating different murder mysteries in their Arconia building in New York. Each new season of the show follows a different murder mystery.

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 kicked off with the tragic murder of the Arconia doormen Lester, which was teased in the Season 4 finale, when our trio found Lester's bloodied body in the water fountain. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel will find even more clues as the series releases new episodes every week.

For fans who have already tuned into the Only Murders in the Building Season 5 premiere, they might have noticed two dedications at the end of the first episode, for Jim Edmiston and Collin Smith. The dedication read as follows:

"Dedicated to the memory of Jim Edmiston and Collin Smith."

While Smith was a renowned location manager and assistant director on multiple projects (also credited on OMITB), Edmiston was an electrician and likely part of the show's BTS crew.

More about Jim Edmiston's dedication in Episode 1 in our story.

How is Jim Edmiston related to Only Murders in the Building?

According to Jim Edmiston's IMDB page, he was a member of Hollywood's camera and electrical department and has worked behind the scenes on many TV shows and films.

He has been credited as the Head Electrician, lighting technician, and company grip on many small-screen productions, including Evil, The Good Fight, The Good Wife, Limitless, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Additionally, Jim Edmiston has also been credited for many feature films, including Catch Me If You Can, You've Got Mail, Men in Black, and Mona Lisa Smile.

While Only Murders in the Building is not credited in Jim Edmiston's works on IMDB, the late electrician likely worked and contributed to the series (behind the scenes) in some capacity. Even when the audience is unfamiliar with talents as Edmiston, shows and films continue to honour them on-screen.

OMITB's recent honour to both Edmiston and Smith suggests that the hardworking crew behind the camera is just as important as the talents we see on-screen. While on-screen stars receive admiration from fans, this tribute was the show’s way of recognizing and honoring the behind-the-scenes crew whose hard work brings these stories to life.

All about the Only Murders in the Building Season 5 premiere

Our favorite true-crime podcast enthusiast trio is back in Only Murders in the Building Season 5. Oliver, Charles, and Mabel have already entangled themselves in a new murder mystery of none other than Arconia's doormen, Lester. The latest season is surely increasing the stakes for our trio with Lester's murder, who was an iconic character and deeply connected to Arconia's history. While the majority of the previous victims were either residents or characters who interacted with the trio, Lester is directly involved in the building's inner workings.

The Only Murders in the Building Season 5 premiere followed Lester's backstory and his shocking history with mobster billionaire Nicky Caccimelio. Oliver, Charles, and Mabel discovered how a young Lester was introduced to Nicky and employed by him in a side hustle. When the Arconia basement became a breeding ground for Nicky's secret Saturday game nights, Lester was tasked with letting people in and out of the building safely.

This shocking backstory about Lester and Arconia has set the stage for an exciting season of Only Murders in the Building, which will have puzzling mysteries and The Godfather-style mobster secrets.

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 will continue to release weekly episodes every Tuesday on Hulu. The Season 5 finale is scheduled to release on October 28, 2025.
