The Wire was one of the more critically acclaimed shows on HBO, which ran from 2002 to 2008 for five seasons. Often counted among one of the best television shows of all time, the crime series follows the story of the notorious drug business in Baltimore as the police officials navigate through the dangerous world that is riddled with corruption and politics. The show, created by David Simon, has a 95% critics rating and 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

What happened to Bodie in The Wire?

Bodie in The Wire had a difficult childhood, having witnessed his mother struggle with addiction and face several other tribulations at a young age. He lived with his grandmother. He first started selling drugs when he was around 13 years old. By 16, Bodie starts working for D’Angelo Barksdale (played by Lawrence Gilliard Jr.), who is a vital member of the Barksdale Organization.

In The Wire, Bodie would often showcase his short temper and violence. After assaulting an officer, he finds himself in a juvenile detention center. His antics would lure the attention of detectives Thomas “Herc” Hauk (played by Domenick Lombardozzi) and Ellis Carver (played by Seth Gilliam).

Per the orders of Russell “Stringer” Bell (played by Idris Elba), who is Avon Barksdale’s (played by Wood Harris) second-in-command, Bodie murders Wallace (played by Michael B. Jordan), since they doubt that he is an informant. Wallace was his friend, and though Bodie was reluctant at first, he felt obliged to commit the crime to appease their leader. After Bodie shows his loyalty, he is promoted in rank and takes control of The Pit, especially since D’Angelo is no longer in the scene.

By Season 2 of The Wire, Stringer starts giving Bodie bigger responsibilities. He starts showcasing his business acumen, but then again, his violent streak gets in the way and results in the accidental death of an innocent. He gets questioned by the authorities. Due to a lack of concrete evidence, Bodie gets released and continues to gather more influence.

Barksdale organization takes a significant hit when Franklin Towers is set for demolition. By this point, Bodie is mainly trying to establish himself. The Barksdale organization, meanwhile, gets into a territory conflict with Marlo Stanfield’s people. During the war, Bodie manages to escape. Stringer gets murdered, Avon gets arrested, and the violence leads the police to raid the territory.

As Season 4 of The Wire takes shape, Marlo becomes the force to be reckoned with as the Stanfield organization gets control of many of the Barksdale territories. Bodie is left with minimal choice, and his loyalty gets shaky. He also continues to be in touch with the detectives Carver and Jimmy McNulty (played by Dominic West) in his jurisdiction.

Marlo wants to control Bodie and pushes him into a corner. Bodie realizes that his control is limited and is forced to sell the drugs given by Marlo. He was Avon’s soldier, and working for Marlo is a setback.

Bodie does not agree to Marlo’s style of dealing with the drug business. When he finds his crew member, Little Kevin (played by Tyrell Baker), dead, Bodi throws a violent tantrum, leading to his arrest. After he is released, one of Marlo’s men sees Bodie getting into Officer McNulty’s car. Bodie has had enough of Marlo’s unjust treatment of his crew, and he agrees to share information on him with McNulty.

When the crew member informs Marlo about Bodie’s interaction with the officer, he orders his death. In The Wire episode titled ‘Final Grades’, Bodie is ambushed by Marlo’s crew members. Even though he could have run away, Bodie chooses to stay and fight, like the soldier he believes he is. But O-Dog comes from behind suddenly and shoots him in the head twice and kills him.
