Drew Starkey on playing Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks

In a 2020 interview with Popternative, Drew Starkey revealed how he prepped to portray Rafe. He said,

"Rafe is definitely unique. It was a challenge, and it was exciting to get to step into his shoes. So I come on and the script had four episodes and there's a lot of development that happens in the later part of the Season and the writers sat me down into where the trajectory of the character was going and I was like great, let's take it even further, let's go a little crazier. It was a ton of fun and the best part of getting to be on the show and playing Rafe is working with the incredible scene partners."

In a quick session with Esquire, when Starkey was asked about the secret of playing an antagonist character, Starkey replied,

"I don't feel as much pressure to be liked or be loved by people. I think that's what's most fun about it is you get to play. You could do something terrible, and it's within the wheelhouse of what you are supposed to hate this person. Maybe that's the secret."
