The popular sci-fi animated sitcom, Futurama, premiered in 1993. The series follows the story of a pizza delivery guy named Phillip J. Fry, who finds himself awakened in the year 2999, 1000 years into the future, after falling into cryogenic sleep. He now works in the Planet Express interplanetary delivery company, and the show further explores the employees of the company.
One of those characters is Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, the owner of Planet Express and often depicted as the mad scientist who keeps sending his crew on life-threatening expeditions. Farnsworth is also Fry's distant relative as he is the latter's great(×30) grandnephew. He was also a professor at Mars University before becoming the owner of the delivery company.

The "mad scientist", Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, has been a part of the series since the premiere episode of Futurama, titled, Space Pilot 3000. In the 31st century, in which Philip wakes up, Farnworth is among his six living relatives. he is described as a senile man, who is well over 160 years old but hasn't given up on his passion for science and has created atomic supermen and doomsday devices as well.
His impulsive and unpredictable nature and creations have also put a parallel universe in danger, as seen in Episode 15 of Season 4 of Futurama. Furthermore, due to the time reef paradox that was shown in Episode 19 of Season 3, it was also revealed that Fanrsworth was Phillip's great (×31) grandson as well.
In Episode 15 of Season 4, he had also revealed that he was a descendant of the original creator of Television, Philo Farnsworth.
Futurama: Professor Farnsworth's character is crucial to the narrative
Farnsworth, who is voiced by Billy West, who also voices Phillip's character, is one of the important characters in Futurama. His quirky and hazardous inventions and the dangerous missions that he sends his crew to are the majority of the storylines in the animated series.
Furthermore, it is also hinted that Farnsworth does not actually care about his crew after his nonchalant reaction when asked about his former crew in the premiere episode. It is later revealed that the whole crew had died in one of those elaborate missions that Farnsworth sends his crew to.
Other than the employees of the interplanetary delivery company, Farnsworth also has a rival and enemy. Ogden Wernstrom, a scientist and Professor at Mars University, was once Farnsworth's student. He was introduced in Episode 8 of Season 1. He became bitter toward his teacher after he received an A- in his test, which Farnsworth told him was due to his bad handwriting.
He had been holding a grudge and wanted to take revenge on Farnsworth, which took a hundred years.
Farnsworth is depicted as an exceptionally intelligent character. However, his age is one of the hindrances behind the correct use of it, and he ends up risking everyone's life around him.
