The Mighty Nein is set to become one of the more successful animated series with some of the more acclaimed voice actors taking on the coveted roles in the hit Prime Video show. Tony award winner Anika Noni Rose is the voice behind the charming Marion Lavorre in The Mighty Nein. The celebrated actor and singer is also known for her roles in Dreamgirls, The Princess and the Frog and Mufasa: The Lion Ling.

The Mighty Nein follows the story of a group of misfits who band together to save the continent of Wildemountin the fictional world of Exandria. The animated series, which is the second Critical Role campaign, which premiered on November 19, 2025, with three episodes. Other voice actors on the series include Liam O'Brien, Sam Riegel, Marisha Ray, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe and Ashley Johnson.

Marion Lavorre is Jester’s mother, also known as Ruby of the Sea. The character is voiced by Anika Noni Rose. The character has golden eyes with red skin and dark red hair. She has a charming and captivating personality. The courtesan is known for her intellect and her keen understanding of people. Her motherly affection for Jester especially stands out.

Anika Noni Rose, who portrays the role of Marion in The Mighty Nein, is known for her many acclaimed roles, including Yasmine in For Colored Girls. Her voice role of Tiana in 2009 animated movie The Princess and the Frog, however, made her a household name. She also started in Academy Award winning movie Dreamgirls as Lorrell Robinson, for which she received a Grammy award nomination.

One of Rose’s more celebrated moments is her Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for portraying the role of Emmie Thibodeaux in the Broadway production of 2004’s Caroline, or Change.

Rose went on to play notable roles in The Good Wife, Bag of Bones, Elementary, The Simpsons, Roots, The Quad, and Starz series Power. She returned to the Broadway stage in 2014 for A Raisin in the Sun revival as Beneatha Younger. She received a Tony nomination for her role.

Rose also appeared in other successful projects such as Maid, Them, Let the Right One In, and as Jessica in Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey. She once again voiced Tiana in Disney’s Once Upon a Studio. She also voiced Cousin Sassy in SuperKitties and Afia in Mufasa: The Lion King. For the later she received NAACP Image Awards nomination.

Rose has lent her voice for video games such as Kinect: Disneyland Adventures, Disney Princess: My Fairytale Adventure and Disney Dreamlight Valley. She was the recipient of the Disney Legend Award in 2011 for her voice role in The Princess and the Frog. Her other accolades include the Los Angeles Critics' Circle Award, an Ovation Award and an Obie Award. She also authored the book Tiana’s Perfect Plan.
