Ahead of the premiere of mystery drama Murder in a Small Town Season 2, Kristin Kreuk, who plays Cassandra Lee, teased her new enemy this season.
In an exclusive interview with Collider during the Fan Expo Canada, Kreuk, while talking about the new addition to the cast, Marcia Gay Harden, revealed,
"She's my nemesis for the season. She is the mayor of the town, and gosh, she's such a joy. She's so good. She made everything hilarious."
Marcia Gay Harden, well known for her roles as Celeste Boyle in Mystic River or Margaret in So Help Me Tod, joined the cast of Murder in Small Town Season 2 as a series regular. She is set to portray Mayor Christie Holman, a doctor who's quite loved by the community, but like any person in power, she sometimes leads by her personal motives.
In Season 1, Cassandra revealed her wish to run for the local town council, and this could put her against the town's mayor. Variety describes Mayor Christie as someone who,
"will complicate life for Karl (Rossif Sutherland) and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk), as she uses the competing priorities of the community to advance her own agenda.”
Marcia Gay Harden needs no introduction - she's an accomplished actress with several accolades, including an Oscar for the film Pollock. Born in 1959, she graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts in 1988. After numerous guest stints in TV programs and series, she landed her breakthrough role in the 1990s film Miller's Crossing.
At 66, The Murder in a Small Town Season 2 star boasts an impressive filmography that speaks of her remarkable career. The list is long, but some of the most popular ones include: The Mist, Pollock, Into the Wild, Barkskins, Fifty Shades of Grey, The Newsroom, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Flubber.
She married Thaddaeus Scheel in 1996, and they have three children. However, the couple split in 2012. In 2018, she authored a memoir called The Seasons of Mother: A Memoir of Love, Family, and Flowers.
When will Murder in a Small Town Season 2 release?
The Canadian crime drama series, Murder in a Small Town Season 2, is all set to release on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, on Fox. It will air at 8 PM ET. The episode will also be available to watch the next day on Hulu.
Created by Ian Weir, the series is based on L.R. Wright's crime novels. This detective procedural series follows Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), a new police chief who relocates to the coastal town of Gibsons.
However, the quiet town has secrets of its own, and Karl tries his best to solve the crimes with his big-city detective skills. Enter Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk), the local librarian, Karl's love interest. This adds another layer to the small-town dynamics.
Season 1 ended with the arrest of the serial killer Tommy Cummins, the town's art teacher, and a sweet reunion of Karl and Cassandra, as they kissed, teasing further developments of their relationship in the upcoming season. In the season finale, Cassandra also revealed her wish to run for the town council.
Murder in a Small Town Season 2 might revolve around the aftermath of the debut season, with Chief Karl Alberg solving new murder mysteries and Cassandra prepping for her political career. This season will be ten episodes long.
