Prime Video's 2017 thriller series Absentia is currently leading streaming charts on Netflix, and the Stana Katic show has recently garnered a lot of social media attention in a very short time. It is not the usual crime drama that one would expect to binge-watch, but instead serves a rather unconventional storyline delivered by an ensemble cast.

With numerous plot twists, Absentia uses suspense as a key tool to continuously intensify the storyline, introducing new characters every now and then and killing off some unexpectedly. Despite being an underrated gem since its inception, the Prime Video thriller maintained its streak and ended on a perfect note with the third season revealing the mole (Julianne Gunnarson) in the case and Alice's involvement.

Back in 2021, lead star Stana Katic addressed Absentia Season 3's ending, mentioning on her Instagram handle why it was the best possible way to end the hit thriller series. As she said:

"ABSENTIA was always meant to be only 3 seasons, & I couldn’t think of a better note to end on… for any person on this planet, but especially Emily and her loved ones."

Why did Stana Katic think that Absentia Season 3 was the best way to conclude the Prime Video thriller?

In May 2021, Stana Katic took to social media to announce the conclusion of Absentia with its third season. It was around the same time that Prime Video confirmed that the thriller series will not move forward for a fourth chapter due to obvious creative reasons.

According to Katic's statement, there was no better way to end Absentia than the way it did, as it "was the perfect amount of space" for her character to come a full arc and get the much-deserved redemption. To quote her exact words:

"Three Seasons was the perfect amount of space for a beautiful, complicated and wonderfully fulfilling journey."

Stana Katic's character, FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne, was introduced as a "victim" of a deadly abduction, and later Absentia shifted her arc to that of a "survivor." Katic further added that Emily eventually became the "empowered architect of her own future," and the ending of Absentia Season 3 also validates the same.

Emily finally gets a peaceful conclusion with her close ones around her after the mole comes to light. She also quits her job to seek help and heal herself from all the trauma over the past few years. Though there have been a lot of speculations about a fourth season back in 2021 (and the buzz is still quite alive), Katic's statement made it clear that beyond this point, it would just mean a lingering story.

In the same Instagram post where Katic dropped the update, the award-winning star also recalled how she was approached in 2017 to go to Bulgaria and spend three years filming "a cable TV series." She further added that she had no idea what she was signing up for, but the "creative partnerships and friendships" definitely enriched her as a human being.
