More on this in our story.
Why did Desean K. Terry leave The Morning Show? Reason explored
Desean K. Terry has been part of the main cast in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Morning Show. He portrayed Daniel Henderson, a passionate journalist, who was waiting for his chance to shine. However, even after trying hard, he was not given a permanent position as a co-host on TMS.
He even went to China to cover Coronavirus news. But he was still told to wait for his chance. Other than being openly gay, through Terry's character, the show also tried to highlight the racial discrimination in the country and the industry. However, at the end of The Morning Show Season 2, Henderson decided to quit TMS and carve his own path since no one was providing him a chance. Mia tried to stop him, but he had made up his mind.
Later, Variety reported that the American actor won't be returning for The Morning Show Season 3 as his contract was not renewed. Terry later shared an Instagram video talking about his disappointment at not being picked. In the video, he stated:
"I did want to come on here and confirm for you all that no, you will not be seeing that character this season. I’m disappointed about it as well, but I’m really grateful that there are folks who reached out who felt seen by that role and narrative."
He further talked about the SAG-AFTRA strike that was going on at the time and stated in addition to pay equity, the union leaders should also not forget about diversity and inclusion, referencing characters like his, who was gay and a black anchor. In the caption, he addressed the issue and wrote how we need diverse characters on screen more than ever, and also shared that his acting journey will continue to move forward.
His caption reads:
"We need more complex and diverse characters on screen, so it’s always disheartening to see one that we love disappear. But rest assured, there’s more to come! My creative journey is ongoing and purposeful. Thank you to all the fans who have reached out."
Variety also reported that Terry's representatives refused to comment on the issue.
The Morning Show stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Nicole Beharie, Jon Hamm, and Marion Cotillard, among many others.
