The first four episodes of Wednesday Season 2 have arrived on Netflix, and the show has taken an interesting new turn that makes it much more relatable for the modern age. Although the audience still follows Jenna Ortega's Wednesday as she navigates her life at Nevermore, this season focuses a lot more on her family life as compared to the first, where her parents appeared in little more than cameo roles.
This season deeply explores the relationship between Wednesday Addams and her mother, Morticia Addams, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. The mother-daughter dynamic plays a very important role in the narrative of Season 2, as we see Morticia becoming much more of a helicopter parent, seeming extremely concerned about Wednesday's well-being at Nevermore.
However, this poses a pertinent question in the viewers' minds: Why is Morticia Addams so concerned about her daughter, Wednesday, in Season 2 of the show?

Morticia Addams is seen to be overly protective of her daughter in Wednesday Season 2
Mother-daughter dynamics play a big role in Season 2 of Wednesday, as we see more and more of Wednesday's family as she navigates her everyday life at Nevermore. There are many new characters introduced in the series this season, with Grandmama Frump and Ophelia Frump being two key characters seen for the first time this season.
While Morticia Addams is portrayed as something of a helicopter mom this season, Grandmama Frump seems to be the complete opposite, and has been termed a drone mom – close enough to be aware of everything that is going on, but far enough for others to almost miss her presence.
However, as we go deeper into the story, we learn that Grandmama Frump has always been that way, and that has negatively impacted both her daughters, Morticia and Ophelia, who share the same psychic abilities that Wednesday also discovers.
Ophelia, however, abuses her power to the extent that her visions gave her black tears. This propelled her mother to send her to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. While Morticia pleaded with her mother not to take this step, Grandmama Frump ignored her pleas and ended up sending Ophelia to the psychiatric hospital.
This season, as Wednesday is seen pushing her psychic abilities much like her aunt, Morticia decides not to be as nonchalant about it as her mother, simply to protect Wednesday from meeting the same fate as Ophelia. Therefore, while it might seem like Morticia is being too concerned about Wednesday this season, it is simply coming from a place of maternal protectiveness.
The remaining four episodes of Wednesday Season 2 will be released on September 3, 2025, and will be available for streaming on Netflix.
