Prime Video recently canceled its latest sports drama Motorheads post Season 1 and is currently seeking a new streaming home amidst mixed response from the viewers. The John A. Norris show currently holds a 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes and, despite being a fresh new story, has garnered quite some social media attention.
With The Vampire Diaries star Nathalie Kelley leading a young, talented cast alongside Matthew Ryan Phillippe (known from Shooter), Motorheads featured a commendable creative lineup and unique plot. It is a coming-of-age drama that revolves around a small town called Ironwood, which is well-known for its history with cars and street racing - hence the name of the show.
But turning the high school adrenaline-driven narrative into a mystery thriller is where the show caught the audience's attention - not to mention how creative delivery maintains the subtle transitions between flashbacks and the present timeline. Follow this article to find out more about why Motorheads Season 2's cancelation is apparently an opportunity wasted.
Motorheads Season 2's cancelation is a great creative potential gone in vain - here's why
Motorheads Season 2's cancelation has led to a huge creative loss as the sports drama could have been the start of a promising franchise. The show did great work in building up a complicated (yet interesting) plot by balancing the past and the future timelines accurately.
Moreover, the character development is on point, with the major part of the story being driven by young faces. For instance, the role Marcel Crawford (played by rising star Nicolas Cantu) is one of the best evolved character arcs - from a nerdy high-school kid who gets ignored by the masses to a cool kid who hangs out with the 'Motorheads', gets his own car, and turns out to be one of the leads in the plot.
Motorheads is also a great mystery thriller as it successfully keeps the legend of Christian Maddox partially under wraps until the backstory is fully revealed in the Season 1 finale. The Prime Video show also does not overdramatize the high-school teenage complexities but rather blends them well with the thrill of street races.
Fans of Fast & Furious definitely got a similar vibe watching Motorheads as vibrant sports cars and youngsters racing them take up a major part of the show. Moreover, the show portrays a town of tradition with unique festivals and gatherings, and how it is passed on to the next generation.
So, Motorheads Season 2, if it had happened, there could have been multiple opportunities to explore new avenues of building up new stories and addressing the older loose ends. The Christian Maddox arc had huge potential to either bring bad news or redeem itself with all the pomp.
Zac & Caitlyn, the Motorhead siblings, might have been the future faces of the town as they go exploring their skills with cars and engines. Sam (Zac & Caitlyn's mother) comes across her old flame from high school, Darren Bowers, and Maddox's potential return could have set up an intense love triangle to add to the drama.
For now, all of it has come to a halt, and until Motorheads gets a new streaming partner, there is nothing to do but speculate. While the show's audience is so far limited but the latest decision to axe the second chapter has given rise to quite some social media buzz that does leave hope for the drama series being greenlit again.
