Only Murders in the Building Season 5 is returning to its New York roots
For fans who are new to the OMITB party, each new season of the comedy series follows a new murder mystery for our lead trio to solve. Lester's shocking murder in the Only Murders in the Building Season 5 premiere was teased all the way back in the Season 4 finale, when Oliver, Charles, and Mabel discovered his body in the water fountain. They really cannot catch a break!
The Only Murders in the Building Season 5 premiere kick-started the trio's investigation into Lester's murder, where they discovered dark secrets about the Arconia's doormen's formative life. Back when Lester was young, he was introduced to the mobster Nicky Caccimelio, who employed the budding doormen in a dangerous side hustle. Lester was tasked with letting people in and out of Arconia, whose basement became the breeding ground for Nicky's secret Saturday Night gambling games.
In an interview with Deadline, showrunner John Hoffman revealed how each season of the show has followed a different aspect of New York, and it was time that Only Murders in the Building Season 5 return to its roots and pay homage to a quintessential New York occupation, ie, doormen.
Hoffman revealed his inspiration for the doormen's murder mystery in Season 5 as:
''I began to wonder about the idea of old New York and new New York, and nefarious influences. Power in New York. And putting that classic job of a doorman in a pre-war apartment building [against] influences like that in a big city.''
Now that the trio is deep into Lester's murder investigation, they are bound to uncover many dark secrets about his life as a doormen in Arconia.
Only Murders in the Building Season 5 releases weekly episodes every Tuesday on Hulu.
