Percy Jackson and the Olympians introduced the audience to one of the fiercest characters in the series, Thalia Grace. Thalia is the daughter of Zeus. While trying to save her friends from the monsters, Thalia gets killed. Zeus turns her into a tree, which protects the Camp Half-Blood. Thalia is played by actress Tamara Smart on the show, who has previously appeared in Resident Evil and A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting.

Based on the books by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympics revolves around a young demi-God, Percy (played by Walker Scobell), the son of Poseidon. He teams up with fellow Half-Blood campers, Annabeth Chase (played by Leah Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) to go on quests and fight monsters to stop destruction. The second season recently premiered on Disney +. Tamara Smart as Thalia makes her debut on the series in her demi-god avatar in Episode 4.

Who plays Thalia in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?

Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus, is played by actress Tamara Smart. For many fans of the show, Tamara must have looked familiar as she has been part of many other successful projects. In the Netflix movie, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, Tamara played the prominent role of Kelly Ferguson, who becomes part of a babysitters group sworn to protect the children.

In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Tamara portrays the role of Thalia. In the story, Thalia was on the run along with Annabeth, Grover and Luke Castellan (played by Charlie Bushnell). Annabeth forms a strong bond with Thalia. When they are attacked, Thalia fiercely defends them, sacrificing her own life in the process. Zeus will turn Thalia into a pine tree, which will protect the Camp half-blood from monster attacks.

Early in the new season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Luke poisons the tree, an act Annabeth considers deeply disloyal. This sets them on the path to not only get the Golden Fleece to help heal Thalia’s tree but also save Grover. Episode 4 features Thalia’s true form, shown through a series of memories alongside Annabeth. Thalia emerges as a formidable leader, always safeguarding those in her care.

As per Deadline, Rick Riordan shared a statement on Thalia’s significance in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2,

"Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson universe, so the right casting was critical. Thalia is a powerful warrior, a fiercely loyal friend, and a demigod rebel with a very ‘punk’ / ‘rage-against-the-machine’ sensibility. As soon as we saw Tamara Smart play this role, we knew we had found our daughter of Zeus. She was, no pun intended, electric. Tamara puts the ‘grace’ in Thalia Grace!"

Tamara Smart has appeared in several other well-known ventures including Kenneth Branagh's Artemis Fowl, in which she played the role of Juliet Butler. She also played the role of Hailey Hicks in Hulu minidrama series Hard Sun. Her other credits include Resident Evil, The Wayfinders, Are You Afraid of the Dark? And The Worst Witch, which marked her television debut, where she played the role of Enid Nightshade.

Tamara’s role in the latest season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians sets the stage for the next season as well, where Thalia could be the character to watch out for.
