Why is The Chi ending? Creator Lena Waithe shares the reason
In the statement shared with EW, Waithe shared the reason behind her creating the show and stated that the first and foremost reason for creating the drama series was taking the reins of telling stories about a community that she belongs to and understands best.
It was about telling stories about a South Side neighborhood with honesty and authenticity while creating a complex narrative about characters in the show. The show premiered in 2018 and has since been one of the popular shows on Showtime, with Season 7 breaking numerous viewing records.

Waithe shared that the decision was made for the story and the characters, and also promised to give the viewers a proper ending to the drama series.
To add to her previous statement, she said:
"I am committed to delivering a final season that our Chi Family deserves."
Waithe further shared gratitude toward everyone, the cats and crew, who helped her create the show and a world where these characters exist, and also revealed that she would continue to write stories about the community. She shared:
"It's been the honor of my life to build a platform for artists to shine - not just in front of the camera, but behind the scenes as well."
More about The Chi
The previous season of The Chi ended with various twists, some of which were heartbreaking while others were hopeful. For instance, Keisha gave birth to a daughter, whom Emmet and she named after the former's mother, Jada. However, with the hope for a new future for the family, the tragedy strikes when Jada dies due to her impending illness.
But that was not the only tragedy that happened, as Alicia was also killed by Douda's widow, Roselyn, to avenge her husband's death, without knowing that Alicia did not actually kill Douda. Furthermore, the most tragic twist happened at the end of the finale when Trig and Shaad, even with having strong alibis, are charged with the murder of Alicia, for being at the crime scene when the police arrived.
The final season will provide the final glimpse at the life and the challenging situations the fan-favorite characters are put through.
