Why does Upload Season 4 have only four episodes? Reason explored
With only four episodes, Upload Season 4 depicted the perfect and emotional ending to the story of Nathan Brown. While the other three seasons of the Prime Video series have 7-10 episodes, the latest season was a shocking surprise for viewers.
Further, some storylines might have appeared a little rushed, but it still delivered one of the best endings in a TV show. While talking to Mama’s Geeky, Amell shared that it is sad that the show had less number of episodes, but Upload season 4 was always going to be the end of the show.
He said:
"What will be interesting is it’s only four episodes, sadly, but they’re four great episodes, and it means the final season moves very quick. The series finale was written as a series finale. Greg wrote it. It’s beautiful."
Further, in 2024, Greg Daniels, creator of the Prime Video show, revealed in a Deadline interview that he had always planned to end the series with a season 4.
He shared:
"When I conceived Upload many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards."
As per The Direct, there are speculations that Amazon might have decided to limit the budget and reduce the episodes for the final season due to Season 3 taking a while to build up momentum. However, there is no official confirmation regarding the speculations.
Comments from the cast on Upload Season 4
The cast of Upload Season 4 talked to The Wrap about how they felt lucky as they got a chance to wrap up the storylines gracefully, where the characters depicted the growth arcs that they have gone through, even if it was just four episodes.
Andy Allo, who played Nora, said:
"In some ways, I feel like we’re lucky. In some ways, I feel like, man, we got the tough end of the stick, you know? But we’ve been so resilient, and it’s been really cool to see how our fans and the audience have just rallied around us."
Creator Greg Daniels, who also wrote the final episode, shared how excited he was to finally end a series with a proper ending and also suggested that it is now fitting for a binge-watch.
He said:
"I’m very happy we got to have a beginning, middle and end, and anybody new who’s coming to the show can just binge it. If you’re a new viewer, and I hope we get a bunch, and you sit down, the show is now something that all that time disappears, and you can just watch the episodes one after another. And I think that’s actually the best way to watch it."
