Following the success of Season 1, Cole and Max returned for more action and drama in Wild Cards Season 2 in February 2025. As the new journey begins they find themselves in greater mysteries and new cases.

However, the two never chose to be together. Destiny and the circumstances forced Cole and Max to work on various cases. At the heart of Wild Cards Season 2 is Cole’s personal mission to find out who was behind his brother Daniel’s murder.

This becomes more than a quest for Cole as he finds out more about the police department and uncovers layers of corruption. At the same time, Max isn't just tagging along. She’s playing her own game.

Behind the scenes, Max is involved in a bigger heist scheme that ties back to her father, George Graham who is currently in prison. Not only this but the second chapter also explores the emotional back-and-forth between Cole and Max.

Cole finds it hard to trust Max due to her betrayal in the previous season. However, Season 2 gradually shows them rebuilding their connection and also teases the "will-they-won’t-they" kind of relationship.

Wild Cards Season 2 ending explained: The truth about Daniel's death is finally out

In the last episode of Wild Cards Season 2, titled Sunrise Sunset, kicks off with a revelation that haunts Cole Ellis: Samson Ramos finally confesses that he was there the night Cole’s brother Daniel died.

Samson had gone to his mother’s club with Daniel to grab a schoolbook when they accidentally overheard a shady meeting involving Roman Locke, a notorious crime boss and another man.. Although they could not observe the person Locke was speaking to, they overheard a discussion on ruining a person's reputation.

When Samson inadvertently made a noise, Daniel jumped in to cover for him. However, things turned deadly after Locke concluded that the "busboy" who saw them needed to be eliminated. The next day, Daniel was killed and Samson had been hiding this secret ever since, pressured by his mother to stay quiet.

As the Wild Cards Season 2 finale continues, Cole grapples with this hard reality while Max is already behind Roman Locke. She crosses paths with Elena Ramos, Samson's mom who is sure that testifying against Locke would kill her son.

She also accuses Max of being a cop, even though Max assures her she's only there to assist. Meanwhile, George and Ricky find another piece of the puzzle: Tyson, a man with ties to Locke, has been gunned down.

They realize that Locke must have inside cover in the force as his raids have been going too well these last couple of years, with arrests seemingly disappearing. Cole, Max and the others start making the connections — somebody inside the force must be tipping off Locke.

All hell broke loose when Locke recognized that someone was present that night. A confrontation erupts between the two as tension boils over in the Wild Cards Season 2 finale. Max pulls a fire alarm and disarms a guard, providing cover for Cole. She discovers Cole standing over Locke, gun to his head and demanding the truth.

Cole eventually admits that Daniel did try calling him that evening but he never picked up. Cole reports the next day to Chief Li and Russo that they have a mole in the department. He only gives this information to Samson and Elena.

But Officer Jim arrives, as backup, and secretly produces a silenced pistol. Jim then calls Russo, and we find out that Elena and Samson are both dead. Shortly, Jim's scheme is foiled as he is caught red-handed, courtesy of other detectives.

Not only this, the gun even matches the one used in killing Tyson, and this confirms Jim's guilt. He's finally left with no choice but to confess how far Locke has gone and this revelation is incredibly shocking for everyone in Wild Cards Season 2.

Elena and Samson exchange a warm hug, relieved that the nightmare is over. But Cole's problems aren't over yet. As the Wild Cards episode nears an end Chief Li tells him that an internal investigation is on the way.

Max, George and Ricky pursue one final mission involving Ashford’s legacy. They discover clues hidden in a replica of Ashford’s office — including secret messages etched into the desk glass and a memory card in his old watch.

Using these hints, they begin solving a digital puzzle that leads to an offshore bank account. But they only get three tries to input the correct twelve passwords. One wrong answer could lock them out for good.

As the tension builds during the final moments of Wild Cards Season 2, they begin deciphering the clues: a magnetized desktop, allusions to Father's Day and Bermuda and clocks all displaying 2:36.

Every solved clue brings them nearer, but the clock ticks on. In the last few seconds, Max is adamant that the final password is "George" because he figured Ashford came back due to the connection he still had with him.

Ricky types in the name and it logs in. The account reveals a staggering sum of over $103 million. Now that Max has finally solved the mystery, she races to catch up with Cole to accompany him on the trip that Danile always wanted to.

However, things became complicated as Max's mother showed up just when she was all set to leave. Wild Cards Season 2 ends with Cole setting off for a new journey while Max can't reunite with him.
