With every new season, The Rookie became a fan-adored show focusing on John Nolan, a man in his mid-40s who decides to completely change his life. After moving to Los Angeles, Nolan kicked off his career by becoming the oldest rookie in the LAPD.
However, fans don’t just love Nolan, as there are other characters in the show as well. One of the key figures introduced in later seasons is Celina Juarez, played by Lisseth Chavez. She appears in Season 5 and becomes a main character in Seasons 6 and 7.
She begins as Nolan's trainee, and most people know Celina because of her strong belief in superstitions and gut feelings. Another quirky addition to the show is Rodge Bronson, a musician who first appears in Season 5.
He’s portrayed by Zander Hawley, the real-life son of the series creator, Alexi Hawley. Fans love his relationship with Celina and wonder if this duo will end up together in The Rookie.
When showrunner Alexi Hawley was asked about this during an interview with TV Line, his response hinted at potential drama ahead. He said, "We’ll see," suggesting that the relationship could go either way.

The Rookie showrunner shed light on Celina and Rodge's potential future together

As mentioned above, The Rookie showrunner was asked if Rodge and Celina would be able to make their relationship work, to which Hawley didn't give a straight answer. He said:
"We'll see. I mean, they’re both young, and ultimately a show full of happy relationships is not as dramatic as it could be."
Hawley continued:
"But I think they’re adorable together, and Liz sparkles [in their scenes], so yeah, we’ll try to keep it going."
The showrunner explained that while he likes their chemistry and enjoys writing them together, a show filled with only happy couples wouldn’t be as engaging. This implies that some conflict or complications are likely, simply because drama keeps a show exciting.

Rodge Bronson went from comic relief to Celina’s boyfriend in The Rookie Season 7
In Season 7 of The Rookie, Rodge Bronson becomes a more central character and officially starts dating Officer Celina Juarez. Their relationship is confirmed in the episode "Three Billboards," adding a romantic angle to Rodge’s quirky presence.
Rodge was mostly a comic side character in earlier seasons, best known for his "Daddy Cop" song about John Nolan. But in "Chaos Agent," he takes the spotlight after his house is vandalized, which ties back to his habit of writing songs mocking different people, including inmates, firefighters, and even Girl Scouts.
After the incident, Rodge stays with Celina and Lucy Chen, and Celina calls him her boyfriend, confirming their relationship. He tries to be part of her routine, joining morning runs and playing music around the apartment, sometimes causing chaos, sometimes being helpful.
Later in the season, Rodge gets involved in a few odd subplots, which some viewers found a bit forced. Eventually, he tells Celina he’s going on tour, suggesting they’ll be apart for now.
