British sci-fi series Doctor Who is among the cult classics in the genre and is a global fan-favorite series. Over the years, numerous actors have donned the beloved character and traveled in the Tardis. One of them is David Tennant, who appeared as the 10th Doctor.

During the LA Comic Con held from September 26-28, 2025, Tennant and his co-star, Billy Piper, revealed that they wouldn't mind returning to the Whoniverse, and that too with a movie. Piper played the character of Rose Tyler, companion to Tennant's character of the 10th Doctor. When they were asked about whether they would reprise their characters if a Doctor Who movie were made, the duo immediately replied and agreed to return. Piper further said:

"I always was pitching for that."

Tennant also quipped:

"We're available!"

While Tennant and Piper are open to working on a movie, it hasn't been confirmed whether Doctor Who will get a movie.

More on this in our story.

Doctor Who: David Tennant and Billy Piper open to reprise their roles in a movie

David Tennant joined the sci-fi series in 2005 when he appeared as the 10th Doctor. Billy Piper's Rose Tyler became the companion of Tennant's character after she appeared with the 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston.

Recently, both have reprised their roles as Tennant appeared again as the Doctor in the series' 60th anniversary specials, in 2023, and Piper appeared as Tyler when Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor regenerated into her character in the finale of the fifteenth series.

At the LA Comic Con, Piper and Tennant revealed that if the franchise made a Doctor Who movie, they both would want to join it. Piper further shared that she would love to experience the beloved series on the big screen after seeing the reaction of the fans who watched the finale of the fifteenth series on the big screen.

To add to her previous comment, Piper stated:

"I loved it that people went to see the last Doctor Who episode in the cinema. I just loved that. I would love the Doctor Who experience on the big screen. They're sort of like films anyway. But yeah, I'd do that."

However, this won't be the first movie of the beloved franchise, as in 1965 and 1966, two non-canonical movies titled Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., respectively, were released starring Peter Cushing. Later, in 1996, Paul McGann, the 8th Doctor, appeared in a TV movie.

Therefore, a movie might not be as far-fetched and is possible in the future. For now, there hasn't been any confirmation about a new movie. However, earlier this year, Radio Times reported that the director of BBC Drama, Lindsey Salt, shared that the Whoniverse will continue to be on the BBC, irrespective of what Disney decides. She said:

"Disney has been a great partnership and it continues with The War Between The Land And The Sea next year but, going forward, with or without Disney, Doctor Who will still be on the BBC."
