The K-drama Good Boy made quite an impact when it premiered in early 2025 on JTBC and Amazon Prime Video. The show quickly gained attention with a gripping storyline centered on former national athletes. They trade their sports careers to become members of a special police task force.
Starring Park Bo-gum, the drama quickly climbed into trending conversations. Its fast-paced action, emotional story, and exciting plot promised something different. This is why the K-drama enjoyed a strong following.
Now, the big question is: Will Good Boy return for Season 2? As of now, there’s been no official word from the creators, broadcaster JTBC, or the production studio about a continuation. The show was planned and filmed as a one-season series, wrapping up its arc in 16 episodes.
Fans were thrilled to see Park Bo-gum and Kim So-hyun in intense roles, and the early episodes packed a punch. But as the story went on, opinions split: some liked the bold themes, while others felt it lost steam. Still, the finale got people talking, especially about the villain Min Ju-yeong’s fate.

Why does Good Boy Season 2 seem unlikely?

While Good Boy had a strong start and featured a powerful cast, several factors suggest that a second season may not happen, at least not anytime soon. One of the biggest reasons is the mixed response the show received.
Although performances by Park Bo-gum and Kim So-hyun were widely appreciated, many viewers felt that the story began to lose its edge in the second half. Another key factor is the way the show was produced. All 16 episodes were pre-filmed and created to tell a complete story from start to finish.
In many K-dramas, when a show is built as a self-contained season, it usually means the creators don’t intend to expand it. Then there’s the matter of ratings. While the drama did experience a bit of a boost in viewership towards the finale, it never became a major hit or a cultural phenomenon.
The audience’s reaction is also divided. While some hope for the story to continue, others believe it was a perfect end. As seen in the finale, Yoon Dong-ju ensured that Min Ju-yeong was arrested and put behind bars.
In the final moments of Good Boy Episode 16, a guard entered the cell and choked Ju-yeong to death. So, this was the end of the leading antagonist, who was once the king of the biggest criminal empire in Insung.

Could there still be hope for a sequel to Good Boy?

K-drama fans always carry one thing with them: hope—for every twist, every character, and every show they love. Similarly, for those curious about whether there’s even a slight possibility of a sequel and what it can explore, we’ve got you covered!
As mentioned earlier, Season 2 isn’t confirmed. However, there are a few storylines that could be explored, like who killed Ju-yeong in prison and why. Also, a new season could introduce a new bad guy, as Ju-yeong said:
"Don't think it's all over because I'm gone... As long as greed and money exist, the world will never change."
He mentioned that people like him are everywhere. So, if there’s a Good Boy Season 2, it could bring back the heroes with new villains and cases to solve—or maybe focus on several criminals instead of just one.
Additionally, if the series finds strong viewership overseas or on global platforms like Netflix or Viki, JTBC might reconsider. Not to forget that Bo-gum and other cast members have strong fan followings—a Season 2 might gain even more popularity.
So, Good Boy may have closed its chapter on-screen. But as fans know, nothing is ever truly over in K-dramaland.
