IT: Welcome to Derry concluded its first season on Sunday, and the finale set up the next season and ties into the two movies that came before. The Muschiettis have been open about their intention to keep the HBO series going for two more seasons. However, HBO hasn't renewed IT: Welcome to Derry for another season as of now.Are we getting IT: Welcome to Derry Season 2?As of now, the answer to this question is unclear. HBO hasn't greenlit the series for another season. However, given the positive popular and critical reaction, it won't be surprising if the prestige network allows the Muschiettis to execute their plans for IT: Welcome to Derry. Andy Muschietti said this on the YouTube channel Cinepop:“For now…our intention is to complete this big story, which is the 3 seasons of Welcome to Derry, which is a story in itself, and Season 1 is just the first of three steps in this story. So yeah, a lot more story to cover.”This is not surprising, as the Muschietti siblings said something similar in the October 2025 Variety interview after the Welcome to Derry premiere:“Our big story arc involves three seasons, mainly based on the three critical cycles of Pennywise, which are 1962, 1935 and 1908.”Therefore, we have to wait for official confirmation from HBO and the Muschiettis' sides. Until then, what we can do is increase the streaming numbers on HBO Max. The last act of the episode does set up the second season as Marge theorizes that Pennywise is trying to undo his death at the Losers' hands in 2019's It Chapter Two.Thus, some fans are theorizing that Pennywise is traveling back to 1935 to kill one of the Losers' grandparents after failing to kill one of their parents. This storyline also has some wondering if the demonic entity killed Teddy Uris in the Welcome to Derry premiere, believing him to be Stanley's father. The finale also ties into the two Andy Muschietti movies: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe second act of the episode reveals that Pennywise perceives time non-linearly, unlike humans, who perceive it linearly. The scene where Pennywise drags Marge through the fog to kill her also features a major revelation that ties IT: Welcome to Derry to the two IT movies. Pennywise taunting Marge calls her with her future name: Margaret Tozier, revealing her to be Richie Tozier's mother. Before delivering the killing blow on Marge, he brings up the missing poster featuring Richie's face, the same one Pennywise used to spook the boy in the 2017 movie. However, she is saved in the last minute because Dick Hallorann psychically freezes him midway. The demonic clown manages to break free and wreak havoc on the heroes. However, Will, Marge, Lilly, Ronnie, and Richie's ghost manage to put Pennywise back on his 27-year slumber by burying the mystical dagger inside the deadwood tree. Everything goes back to normal after that, and the episode cuts to October 1988, and sets up the events of the 2017 movie by featuring one of the Losers, Beverley Marsh."Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King’s “IT” novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films “IT” and “IT Chapter Two.”"The first season of Welcome to Derry is streaming on HBO Max.
