Morgan Jones remained an integral part of The Walking Dead franchise for 13 long years. Played by Lennie James, the character debuted in the mothership series in 2010 and continued his journey into the spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, which finished its run in 2023.

Now that the original series has given birth to multiple offshoots, and several fan-favorite characters have earned their own spin-offs, fans have been wondering if Lennie James will also return to the franchise as Morgan Jones.

However, the actor has cleared the air and revealed that as of now, no plans or discussions are going on to make a show about Morgan Jones, or to reintroduce him in any of the ongoing spin-offs. Lennie James said in an interview with ScreenRant:

“I haven't heard anything. That's the truth of the situation. But also, the truth of the situation is, if I had heard anything, I wouldn't tell you. But, in all honesty, I haven't heard anything. I do get asked that question on a regular basis, but as things stand, as of today, I've heard nothing.”

Morgan Jones is not returning to The Walking Dead franchise for now

Lennie James’ comments have crushed the hopes of fans who were expecting him to reappear in The Walking Dead universe. Morgan Jones was alive when he was last seen in the Fear the Walking Dead series finale, and hence, his reemergence was not entirely impossible.

Following the conclusion of the original series, several characters went their separate ways and ended up with their own spin-offs. Currently, Negan and Maggie, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, respectively, are headlining the Dead City spin-off, which has so far aired two seasons.

Daryl and Carol, played by Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, respectively, are leading the Daryl Dixon series. Meanwhile, Rick Grimes and Michonne also got their spin-off, The Ones Who Live, which aired as a miniseries on AMC in 2024. In an interview with Collider, Lauren Cohan stated that all these characters could meet at some point in the franchise and have a reunion:

“We’ve talked about taking these characters to somewhere where they we eventually do all get back together again and there’s some intersection of the super group. I think it would blow people’s minds. It would blow our minds. It would be the ultimate reunion and the ultimate finish.”

However, with James’ statement, it seems like Morgan Jones would not even be a part of this potential reunion. The actor debuted the character in the very first season of The Walking Dead. His portrayal of a single father struggling with the death of his wife amid a zombie outbreak resonated well with the audience.

Morgan and his son, Duane, became the first survivors who came across Rick after he woke up from a coma. After eight seasons on the show, Jones crossed over to the spin-off Fear the Walking Dead and served as its lead from seasons 4 to 8. Since the conclusion of the post-apocalyptic drama, Lennie James has been seen in the shows Mr Loverman and Genius.
