Will Patience Season 2 happen? Everything we know about the future of the PBS series

With a successful season 1, Patience season 2 is already confirmed and began filming in May 2025. The British-Belgian drama tells the story of Patience Evans, played by Ella Maisy Purvis, a self-taught criminologist with autism, who, with her unique way of looking into the details of cases, becomes an integral part of the City of York police.

While Season 1 focused on Purvis’s Patience trying to adjust in the department, which looked at her skeptically, Season 2 of Patience will bring more difficult situations in her life and will delve deeper into her life while living with autism.

Patience Season 2: Plot and release date news

Purvis's Patience had built a great rapport with Fraser's DI Metcalf in Season 1; however, with her gone in the new season, the arrival of a new character in her stead might bring new changes to her life. This new character, Detective Frankie Monroe, might introduce some new difficulties in Patience's life, as she is accustomed to living by following a routine, and will further explore her new relationship with Elliot.

As per Channel 4, the synopsis of Patience season 2 reads as,

"Patience will continue her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police after establishing herself as an invaluable member of the team, bringing her unique insight into a series of perplexing cases."

It continues,

"However, when a new boss, Detective Frankie Monroe brings a very different management style, it proves tricky for them both to navigate. Love is also in the air in this series as Patience begins a relationship with a work colleague Elliot and the police department gets a makeover with the arrival of a new PR consultant all whilst tackling intriguing crimes in extraordinary settings such as York Minster."

While Season 1 had only six episodes, the upcoming season of Patience will have eight episodes. As mentioned, the filming of Patience season 2 has already begun in May 2025; however, a release date for the new season has not been confirmed yet but is expected to be sometime in 2026.

Patience Season 2: Cast and other details

Apart from Purvis, several characters are expected to return for a Patience Season 2, which includes Tom Lewis, Nathan Welsh, Adrian Rawlins, and Liza Sadovy, among others. Aside from the returning characters, Jessica Hynes is the latest addition to the crime drama, who will play Frankie Monroe.

While talking to TV Insider, Purvis shared how Patience season 2 will focus more on Patience's life and career and how she reacts to the changes. She said,

"We are shooting Season 2 at the moment, and there are a couple of scenes where that is put into question. because it’s quite an unusual thing for a clerical worker, a civil servant to do, to be directly involved in the police work in crime, being on crime scenes and whatnot. But I don’t think we see her routine being disrupted and then it sort of evolve into a different routine."

She continued,

"I think she’s very happy with the structure and relationships she’s built, not just with Bea, but with all of the team. She needs a pay rise. She needs more holiday days."

Hynes, who is the new addition to the series, also talked to Channel 4 about her excitement in joining Patience season 2 and said:

"I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Patience as DI Frankie Monroe – I hugely enjoyed the first series as a viewer and looking forward to joining the team for the second series to be in the middle of the action."
