Peacemaker Season 2 is just a month away, and showrunner James Gunn is enjoying the fruits of Superman’s success. Ever since the teaser trailer for the second season dropped on May 9, 2025, fans have speculated that the upcoming season might dabble with the multiverse. While some may feel wary of the multiverse concept in superhero movies and shows, James Gunn’s involvement has fans hopeful.

Two days ago, on July 20, 2025, DC Studios co-CEO, Superman director, and Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone’s senior writer Brian Hiatt. In the article titled “‘Superman’ Secrets Revealed: The James Gunn Spoiler Interview”, Gunn teased the role of the multiverse in Peacemaker Season 2, which is scheduled to release next month.

James Gunn confirms multiverse in Peacemaker Season 2:

As mentioned before, James Gunn did offer a major tease about Peacemaker Season 2 in the Rolling Stone interview. Although the article primarily focused on Superman, Hiatt and Gunn briefly discussed the upcoming season of Peacemaker and what to expect.

The teaser, released in May, hinted that the pocket dimension—called the QUC (Quantum Unfolding Chamber)—first introduced as a storage unit in Season 1, will play a larger role in Season 2. This was confirmed in a May 2025 Entertainment Weekly interview, where Gunn also teased the QUC’s connection to the then-upcoming Superman film.

Now that Superman has been released, we know the QUC functions not just as a storage space but also as a potential detention facility. However, both Peacemaker Season 1 and Superman may have only scratched the surface of its full capabilities. The teaser for Peacemaker Season 2 teaser suggests that the QUC could be used to connect different realities as well.

Gunn, confirming the presence of two different realities, told Hiatt that Season 2 would indeed feature multiple dimensions. But he also clarified:

"That’s true. Yes. People are realizing that Peacemaker Season Two is about two dimensions, and that’s really the core of the show. But it’s not as if one of these is old DCEU and one’s DCU. That’s dealt with in a different way, very upfront in a season where most everything in Season One is canon and some things are not. And in fact, I did a podcast with [actors] Steve Agee and Jen Holland. And we did every episode of Peacemaker, and in those episodes, I talk about what’s canon and what’s not. I basically chip off little things from Peacemaker Season One that aren’t canon, like Aquaman. But most of the stuff is canon."

What do James Gunn's comments mean?

Gunn has long insisted that Peacemaker Season 2 would happen—even if the DCEU, launched in 2013 with Man of Steel, were scrapped. This update continues to confuse fans, especially since Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller appeared in the Peacemaker Season 1 finale as Aquaman and The Flash, respectively, along with silhouetted versions of the Justice League.

Gunn has since confirmed that most of Season 1 remains canon, except for the Justice League cameo. Momoa is now playing Lobo in the DCU, and Ezra Miller’s future in the franchise remains uncertain.

Additionally, aside from Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, most characters from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker didn’t have direct interactions with core DCEU heroes. Even if Waller and Harley Quinn shared screen time with Ben Affleck’s Batman, it would be easy to retcon these portrayals as alternate versions of the same characters from 2016’s Suicide Squad.
