Apple TV+'s Pluribus has elbowed its way into dominating prestige TV with the quiet menace of a hive mind takeover. Vince Gilligan's post-apocalyptic sci-fi show's Episode 8 has brought us a fresh batch of revelations and then just stepped aside! So fans are left pacing the internet while waiting for a finale scheduled for December 24.

The result is that, yes, viewers are hooked, but also getting exhausted with the slow burn. Is Pluribus shaping up to be the next From? The latter is the MGM+ mystery that is infamous for stretching suspense until audiences start demanding receipts, so that you know.

The comparison makes sense in a way because both shows thrive on uncertainty and have their fans obsessing. But VG plays a different psychological game thanks to ferocious Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka.

Why does Pluribus feel like From 2.0?

From built its reputation by trapping characters in a nightmare town with no exits and monsters that only came out at night. This premise was torture for anyone who loves clarity. But Pluribus flips the formula as its horror is cheerful. An alien virus turns humanity into smiling participants in a global hive mind.

So instead of gore, Vince Gilligan goes for existential dread. Carol is immune and thus very uninterested in forced bliss and becomes our surrogate. Like From, this show also hoards its secrets and then dismantles fan theories one after the other. Each episode answers just enough to fuel the next spiral.

The difference between these two shows is their tone. From is relentless, but Pluribus is mischievous. The show has reportedly surged past Severance and Ted Lasso in buzz, so it looks like we love the tease as long as it is bright and strange enough to keep us hooked.

Fans can't wait for the Pluribus finale reveals

The frenzy started early because fans gobbled up the November 7 double-episode premiere aggressively. So much so that Apple TV+ briefly buckled under the load! But since then, every Friday drop has fueled fan discourse.

And now that the penultimate episode is out and the finale is looming, fans' patience has practically run dry.

That impatience feels familiar to From veterans, too, as they have spent seasons chasing answers that either arrived in drops or sometimes not at all. But now people are scare that the Apple TV show could end its first run with a cliffhanger, as it has now officially been renewed for season two.

Gilligan has been urging fans not to give spoilers to themselves by scouring satellite images or Google Earth for clues, but in vain.

Still, critics argue Pluribus earns its suspense. Because beyond the mystery, the hive mind is a metaphor for modern life's frictionless existence. Carol refuses to comply, and her very human grief and rage become the show's central plot device. Though we don't know yet if the finale will answer every question, we can keep our fingers crossed that it won't feel like a From rerun.
