Amazon Prime Video's The Chosen pulled off the greatest seasons yet with The Last Supper (Season 5), which released its final set of episodes on June 29, 2025.
The biblical historical series is based on the stories of Jesus of Nazareth (Christ) and his disciples in Judaea and Galilee in the 1st century, as per the New Testament.
Season 5 featured the events of Holy Week, the week before Christ's crucifixion, where He had The Last Supper with 12 of His most loyal disciples. Christ was then handed over to the Romans for His eventual crucifixion.
The Chosen Season 6 was already renewed before the Season 5 finale, which will depict Jesus Christ's crucifixion. The upcoming season will also feature the returning cast, including Jonathan Roumie (Christ), Shahar Isaac, Elizabeth Tabish, Paras Patel, Noah James, and many more.
While there is no confirmed release date for The Chosen Season 6, the finale will be released in theatres on March 12, 2027.

What is the latest news on The Chosen Season 6? Details explored
Fans can finally rejoice as The Chosen is already renewed for Season 6. In addition, in an interview with the Deseret News last May, creator Dallas Jenkins revealed that his team is simultaneously working on Seasons 6 and 7, which would conclude this Biblical drama:
“We went to Sundance, spent a couple of days there and just plotted out the outlines and started to work on some of the scripts for Season 6 and 7 because we really want to make sure that we know where we’re going with everything.”
Filming for Season 6 also began in April 2025 in North Texas, where the production team spent three weeks filming in Goshen, Utah, before moving on to Matera, Italy, to film the most momentous moment of Christ's life, the crucifixion.
Since The Chosen Season 6 is the most weighted season yet, the team underwent a rigorous filming schedule, shooting most of the scenes at night. Discussing the filming process for Season 6, Jenkins noted in an interview with KSL TV:
“It’s exhausting. This season is an 86-day shoot. It’s almost 20 days longer than any other season we’ve ever done. It’s the physical challenges, the logistical challenges that make it even harder.”
Recently, The Chosen's official YouTube channel also posted a BTS video featuring the crucifixion with all the main cast members. The crew can be seen building the wooden cross and preparing the actor's body with red paint to film the most harrowing event in the Holy scriptures.
What can you expect from The Chosen Season 6?
While the biblical drama has featured many important stories from the New Testament, like Jesus Christ turning water into wine, walking on water, and even resurrecting a few lucky disciples from the dead, Season 5 was the most important yet.
Season 5 featured The Last Supper, which was Jesus Christ's final meal with his 12 Apostles, before He was arrested and handed over to the Romans. The Chosen Season 6 will begin in the aftermath of Christ's arrest, where He would be taken for crucifixion.
While Season 6 will only cover 24 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, building up to the events of His crucifixion, it is said to be one of the longest and most emotional seasons yet. Talking about his experience of filming Christ's crucifixion, Jonathan Roumie discussed with Collider:
“It’s brutal. This is the most difficult thing I think I’ve ever done. It’s the most difficult season. It’s the most difficult role, and this being the most difficult role in the most difficult season, with the physicality that is expected, that I feel is expected, and that ultimately we will portray during Christ’s suffering and death -- His passion -- I don’t know anything else that could be more challenging to me as a performer.”
Fans are already emotional after seeing the BTS clip from the upcoming season, and emotions will naturally run high when Season 6 features Christ's crucifixion.
