Hearties can rejoice as When Calls the Heart is renewed for Season 13 on Hallmark Channel. The classic Western romance series, based on Janette Oke's eponymous book from her Canadian West series, is one of the most popular and longest-running TV shows on the Hallmark Channel.
The show was renewed for Season 13 in March 2025, a day after its Season 12 finale aired on Hallmark. The network's commitment to Oke's romance series suggests that the show's future is bright. The filming for the new season began in July 2025, and Hearties can expect new episodes in 2026.
When Calls the Heart follows an early-1900s schoolteacher named Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), who is accustomed to a high society life. However, her life takes a different turn when she is assigned to teach in Hope Valley, a small community on the Canadian frontier.
More on this in our story.
When Calls the Heart will return with Season 13 next year
Lead actress and executive producer Erin Krakow shared the renewal news with her Hearties (on Instagram) soon after the Season 12 finale. Confirming that the beloved drama series will return for another season, the actress announced:
"Psst — I got news. When Calls the Heart is returning for season 13, and we are SO EXCITED! We can't wait to get back to Hope Valley to tell more of the stories you love! We'll see you on Hallmark."
While Hallmark has not confirmed the official release date for the new season, When Calls the Heart Season 13 will return in 2026. Like its previous seasons, the new season will also likely consist of 12 episodes.
New episodes of the beloved series will be aired on the Hallmark channel and will also be available on Hallmark+ the following day. In the meantime, fellow Hearties can binge-watch the previous seasons on Hallmark+.
When Calls the Heart's future is bright on Hallmark
Now entering its thirteenth season, When Calls the Heart is one of the longest-running and a staple drama series on the Hallmark channel. Since its inception in 2014, the show has amassed a wide audience base with each season and has also released annual New Year and Christmas Specials.
The Hallmark Channel has expressed no interest in concluding this staple series, and its universe only expanded with When Hope Calls, its spin-off series, which premiered its Season 2 on Great American Family in 2021.
Samantha DiPippo, Senior Vice President of Programming at Hallmark Media, expressed her gratitude to all Hearties and assured them that the show's future is bright on Hallmark:
“Hearties are far more than a fan base — they are a connected community, as loyal and supportive as the characters of Hope Valley. It is an honor to tell stories of hope, resilience, humor and romance that continue to resonate with millions of viewers for twelve seasons and beyond.”
Elizabeth moved away from Hope Valley in the Season 12 finale
When Calls the Heart Season 13 renewal news was surely happy but not surprising for Hearties, given its cliffhanger ending of the previous season. After Elizabeth realised that her son, Jack Jr., was not responding to the insulin shots for his diabetes diagnosis, she decided to move to Cape Fullerton.
Since Cape Fullerton has a medical lab, which will be better suited to Jack's treatment, Elizabeth made this difficult decision. Additionally, her love interest, Nathan, and his adoptive daughter, Allie, also decided to accompany them to Cape Fullerton. This suggests that When Calls the Heart Season 13 will return with a new location, but our favorite characters will soon return to Hope Valley.
Showrunner Joy Gregory has also teased that the new season will test Elizabeth and Nathan's relationship as they handle Jack's chronic illness in a new territory. Allie's entry into young adulthood and her friendship with Oliver Garrett will also be explored in the upcoming season.
While the story might take a detour to Cape Fullerton, our beloved characters will eventually return to Hope Valley in When Calls the Heart Season 13.
