The WB's supernatural series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which ran from 1997 to 2003, received critical acclaim and is now considered one of the greatest shows of all time.

The popularity of the show paved the way for its spin-off series Angel (1999), and the series is also getting a reboot after almost two decades since its conclusion.

Original Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers actress Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role for the reboot, who will also mentor a new Slayer played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. This Hulu reboot will continue the lore established in the parent series.

While Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is yet to reveal any additional casting details, an alum has expressed interest in returning to the franchise.

On Charisma Carpenter's podcast B*tch is Back, actress Julie Benz has expressed her desire to appear in the reboot. Benz played the character of a vampire girl named Darla, who even appeared in the spin-off series Angel.

Expressing her desire to reprise her character, Benz noted:

''I would do it again today. If they called and offered me Vampire Girl #1, today, in the reboot, I'd say 'Hell yeah, I'll do it.''

More on this in our story.

Who was Julie Benz's Darla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Julie Benz's Darla was introduced in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Episode 1, "Welcome to the Hellmouth". She is shown to be a vampire, in cahoots with The Master, Buffy's primary antagonist in Season 1.

Soon, in episode 'Angel', Darla's backstory was revealed, following which she became a fan-favorite character and even appeared in many flashbacks and visions in both the parent series and its spin-off series, Angel.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's episode 'Angel' revealed that she is Angel's sire and his longtime lover, which changed the dynamics of their relationship. However, after she is killed in the same episode, an evil law firm resurrects Darla to weaken Angel.

While Darla continues to appear in some episodes of the parent series, she was brought back for the spin-off series, where she became the first vampire to give birth to Angel's human-like son Connor, concluding her character's arc in the show's universe.

Interestingly, Julie Benz's Darla was initially an unnamed character who was written off in the Pilot itself. However, the character later became Darla and was even featured in the spin-off series, Angel.

Can Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot bring back Julie Benz's Darla?

While Darla dies in Angel Season 3, after sacrificing herself for her son Connor, the character has been resurrected multiple times before. Benz's Darla is one of the characters who has died the most in the universe and has been resurrected multiple times.

With no additional casting news, it's difficult to say whether actress Julie Benz can return in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. However, since Geller has expressed her desire to bring back old characters in the reboot, Benz's return is possible.

Since Geller will also act as an executive producer on the reboot series, she will likely have more control over the casting and production process. Talking to Vanity Fair, the actress noted:

''It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original. We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.''

Considering Geller's comments, Benz's Darla could likely appear in the reboot. Since the character has been brought back from the dead multiple times in the past, she can be included in a cameo role once again, which would be a nice surprise for the fans.
