Peacemaker Season 2 premiered on August 21, 2025, and has already won and broken many hearts. In Season 2, even after saving the world and exposing Project Butterfly, Chris (John Cena) and the others are still not considered heroes.
The 11th Street Kids are dealing with the aftermath of accusing the government of working with Leota’s mother on Project Butterfly. They have now been blacklisted from working with any agency. The effect of this decision is particularly visible in Harcourt’s (Jennifer Holland) actions. After being rejected by every agency, she finds herself in a bar, indulging in a fight that wasn’t just physically brutal but also depicted Harcourt’s mental struggle.
Her work and her missions are what define Harcourt, and without them, she appears lost and emotional in Episode 1 of Peacemaker.
More on this in our story.
Peacemaker Season 2: Harcourt’s bar fight depicts her anger toward feeling useless
While Harcourt and Chris might be tiptoeing around their feelings toward each other, Episode 1 of Peacemaker Season 2 showcased the bigger emotional struggles Harcourt was going through. Exposing the government made matters worse for the 11th Street Kids, as none of them got to join any agency.
This particularly affects Emilia Harcourt, who has no work and no reason to confront the bad guys. In Season 1, she was in a bar fight when she beat up big men who tried to harass her. However, in Season 2, the fight showed her vulnerability and sense of uselessness.
The scene portrayed how Harcourt’s missions define her. There is no other entity in her life that gives her purpose besides her work. In Peacemaker Season 2, Harcourt struggles to find work and has no other outlet for her anger and frustration. As a result, she goes to the bar to deliberately pick a fight, which is heartbreaking.
Further, she is trying to navigate her complicated relationships with the 11th Street Kids, especially Chris. This adds more layers to her character, who is already falling apart.
Peacemaker Season 2: Jennifer Holland’s comments on her character
While talking to DC World, Holland discussed how her character feels especially vulnerable in Season 2. This vulnerability stems from the circumstances she survived in Season 1, as well as her complex relationship with the gang. She said:
"She's in a very vulnerable place, but she doesn't want to show that she's in a vulnerable place. I think she was put in a vulnerable position when she almost died at the end of Season 1, and she also is opening up to these relationships with the 11th Street Kids in a way that I think makes her feel uncomfortable."
She further added:
"I think she goes a little too far with how much she's opening up and she's trying to button back up again, and so I think she's unraveling a little bit. ... She's not a superhero. She's just a human being who's very capable, and so she's purposefully putting herself into positions where she will get injured."
Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
