In Task Episode 1, Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) is put in charge of a task force to capture the thieves who have been creating mayhem in the neighborhood. However, Tom appears not to be in a position due to his struggle with his family problems.

His drinking habit is a direct result of this difficult time in his life. However, the Academy Award-nominated actor has given us numerous moments showcasing his talent. One of these moments is when he talks to his friend, Father Georges.

In the scene, Tom appears to be drunk after downing vodka from his Phillies cup. While reminiscing about his priesthood days, Georges tells him about one of their friends publishing his piece in The National Catholic Register. He tells him that he has also mailed the piece to Tom.

However, Tom dismisses him by telling him that it must be about convincing everyone that Christ is there in everything around them, and laughs. Father Georges guesses that his friend might not have read the piece and asks about what he is reading these days.

Tom replies that he read the trivia written in his Phillies cup, depicting how he has lost his path. While their conversation appears to be warm, Tom’s friend sees through his troubles. The scene brought forth the inner turmoil of Ruffalo’s character. While he was laughing, singing, and even forcing his friend to dance with him, internally, he felt adrift.

The compelling scene in Task Episode 1 not only makes Tom appear more raw and vulnerable, but also showcases Mark Ruffalo’s acting skills and his captivating screen presence in dramatic roles like this. After Mare of Easttown, Task might be the next best crime drama that is also created by Brad Inglesby.
