The end is near for Stranger Things, and with the fifth and final season's second half on the horizon, the internet has spiraled! Fan theories have predicted everything from character deaths to clones, resurrections, and sacrifices. Naturally, the cast weighed in on an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and their reactions were just unsettling enough to keep fans up at night. As the Hawkins gang reacted to the wildest Season 5 speculation, one theory dominated the conversation: that the finale won’t end without losing at least one major character. Unfortunately, that includes Eleven, Will, Mike, or our favorite Steve Harrington. When the idea of Steve’s death came up, Maya Hawke (who plays Robin) joked about the intensity of the fans. She recalled reading online:“If you kill Steve, I will kill you.”Then Natalia Dyer (who plays Nancy Wheeler) added as she lowered her gaze from the camera,“You got to watch out.”That line alone sent fandom into a frenzy! Is Steve Harrington in danger on Stranger Things? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostSteve Harrington’s potential death has become a theory that fans can’t let go of. The cast acknowledged that Steve’s arc feels tailor-made for a tragic exit. Jamie Campbell Bower also admitted he’s been “on the receiving end” of countless pleas begging the Duffers to spare Steve. Fans, oddly enough, are torn between wanting him safe and wanting a moment that absolutely wrecks them.Millie Bobby Brown (or as she is recently Millie Bonnie Bon Jovi) then joked that the “major character death” on Stranger Things could be Steve’s hair! She said it would devastate Hawkins more than any Demogorgon could. Dyer then riffed on an idea where Dustin makes a “sacrifice” to save Steve, but the cast then spiraled into dark humor about severed limbs before going back to something emotional. Too vague and not comforting at all, guys!Well, the Stranger Things cast understands why fans are fixated on Steve. He is the heart of the show, and hearts are what finales go for.Why is Eddie still gone on Stranger Things? So, beyond death predictions, the cast also looked at theories that stretch the Upside Down to its limits. One of the most persistent theories says that Will Byers is a clone created by Vecna, and the real Will has been trapped in the Upside Down this entire time. While the actors praised the creativity, they shut it down as they pointed out how it would twist years of emotional scenes into something far stranger (pun intended) than they were actually meant to show. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAnyway, let's come back to Eddie Munson now. Despite fans' hope for a supernatural comeback, the cast was straightforward about it. Vecna puppeteering Eddie’s corpse, or as Gaten Matarazzo read out to be “vampire undead Eddie,” won't happen at all. Eddie is dead. So is Bob. And so is Joyce’s Season 1 dog, sadly. Still, some Stranger Things fan theories (like Lucas and Max being “endgame”) were met with optimism, while others, like a Men in Black-style memory wipe ending, were dismissed. So, as Stranger Things is coming to an end with Part 2, the cast sure knows what’s coming, and we as fans definitely don’t. All seasons of Stranger Things stream on Netflix.
