Kim Go-eun is finally reprising her role as Kim Yuri in tvN's K-drama Yumi's Cells Season 3. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the K-drama debuted in 2021 and became an instant hit. The sophomore season was released in 2022, following which the show will return for a third and final season.
The show is a cell-based psychological romance that uses elements of animation and follows Yumi's office romance through her different cells. The audience gets to see the different instincts and feelings controlled by different cells of the protagonist's body.
After a successful two-season run, it was announced that Kim Go-eun would finally reprise her lead role as Yumi, who would no longer be an ordinary office worker. She will now be a best-selling author at Julie Publishing.
After her two failed relationships, Yumi's life takes a turn, and love finally takes a back seat. Viewers were excited to know who would play Shin Soon-rok, Yumi's love interest in Season 3.
South Korean actor and model Kim Jae-won has now been cast as Soon-rok, who will activate Yumi's cells again.

Yumi's Cells Season 3 announces male lead opposite Kim Go-eun
Kim Go-eun's Yumi has finally got a new love interest in Yumi's Cells Season 3. Since the news about the actress's return to the K-drama's final chapter was revealed, fans were excited to know who would play the role of Soon-rok.
Yumi will romance Jae-won's Soon-rok with her love cells in the show's upcoming season. Jae-won has previously worked on projects like Heirarchy, King The Land, Our Blues, Stealer: The Treasure Keeper, and Tales of Lady Ok.
Soon-rok, Yumi's love interest in Yumi's Cells Season 3, will be a new editor at Julie Publishing’s editorial department. With a blunt and cold personality, Soo-rok will have a dominant rational cell that is bound to clash with Yumi's emotional cells.
Known to live a predictable and routine life, Soon-rok will also have a secretive, charming personality that will emerge as Yumi's Cells Season 3 unfolds.
Talking to Soompi, Jae-won discussed his upcoming character:
“It feels new to be joining a project that has received so much love. I will do my very best to create a wonderful Soon Rok in this series as well. I would be grateful for your continued support and love.”
Since fans loved Kim Go-eun's chemistry with Ahn Bo-hyun and Park Jin-young in Seasons 1 and 2, Jae-won already has competition and possibly pressure from the show's success. The show was hailed for its psychological perspective on typical love stories, and Soon-rok and Yumi's romance will also likely strike a chord with the audience.
Season 3 will see Yumi in a different role. After finally realising her lifelong dream, she has become a star author at her publishing company. While her romance novel is nothing like her love story, it is a hit among readers.
After losing hope in love because of two failed relationships, Yumi's emotional cells are in turmoil until she meets Soon-rok. Kim Go-eun's Yumi will collaborate with her company's new editor for a project that will again make waves in her life and see action in her cells.
Yumi's Cells Season 3 will likely release in 2026.
