On Beyond the Gates, Martin is going to get more than he bargained for when he makes a scene out of Bill and Haley's night together at the Country Club. But how did we get here?
What’s happening on Beyond the Gates

Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durett) has been labeled as a fixer, a man who runs on favors and connections, and was, once upon a time, the go-to man for the Dupree family when a problem needed “fixing.” It was incredibly naive of the Dupree family to think that because Bill’s marriage to Dani (Karla Mosley) was over, they could just forget about him, or he wouldn't still be inextricably tied to them for the rest of their lives. It’s been a question for more than three months now: What did Martin (Brandon Claybon) do that has him having such stressful nightmares? And why does it have Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita (Tamara Tunie) so concerned?
Once upon a dark night

Whether Martin can actually recall what happened and what was his level of involvement is up for debate. But it would appear that heading to the Country Club and publicly going after Bill Hamilton would suggest that Martin knows what he did — but maybe doesn't know that Bill is the reason that everyone else doesn't know.
The fact that mere mentions of this night have people shaking in their boots, and Bill has used it as a veiled threat several times, should have Martin seeing that this is best a battle he doesn't go after. Smitty is making waves by questioning Nicole and Martin about what is going on. Having Bill remind Smitty that it’s in Martin's best interest that he remember that they are all on the same team has raised his suspicions further and has him pressing Martin for the truth. Between Smitty not giving up on asking questions and Bill being a constant reminder of his dark past, Martin is a man on the edge — the edge of doing something foolish. Martin makes a scene at the Country Club and says something so enraging to Bill that he launches himself up from his seat and grabs Martin around the throat.

If Smitty wasn’t positive that Martin was hiding something from him, he sure will be now. The altercation was witnessed by the entire dining room of the Fairmont Crest Country Club and will be the talk of the town. “Congressman Martin Richardson and renowned attorney Bill Hamilton involved in a fight” will be the headlines, and then how will Martin explain this to Smitty? Fortunately, this all played out in the imagination of Martin. He really does have some rage bubbling under the surface with impulses he needs to keep under control.

Martin excuses himself, but all of that occurs under the watchful eyes of a mysterious man only known as Kenny (Jason Vendryes) who quickly sends a message on his cellphone then follows Martin out of the room. Look out, Smitty, this is only the beginning of an excavation into the past; who knows how many skeletons are buried under this one?
