On Beyond the Gates, The Articulettes' reunion tour struggles to get off the ground, even after Senator Dupree added his diplomatic skills. The tour needs to be cancelled, and here's why.

Beyond the Gates: Articulettes strong?

The Articulettes reunion tour needs to be stopped. The back and forth between Anita (Tamara Tunie) and the other two remaining ladies is a recipe for disaster once things get underway, if that ever happens. The animosity that Sharon (Bonita Brisker) has for Anita cannot be simply buried, as Vernon's (Clifton Davis) peacemaking efforts appear to suggest.

Sure, in the moment, Vernon makes a lot of sense, and I found myself nodding my head along with his words. But Sharon is bitter, twisted, and feels robbed, and that doesn't just disappear. Sharon told Tracy (Maria Howell) that they should just use Anita to get this off the ground and then, when the moment is right, leave her high and dry, just like she had done to them. This was a plan made, and at no point have we seen Sharon say that she no longer wants to do this.

Like me, Beyond the Gates fans and viewers have an opinion, and have been discussing the reunion tour on the Soap Central Message Boards.

End this now before Sharon's revenge gets Anita hurt

Board user mopey4soaps wrote, “Today was the first day that I didn't like Anita. She wasn't really listening. Sharon and Tracy want to be included in the decisions, not be told what the decisions are after the fact. It's creeping into the Anita show and that's probably what happened back in the day. Little by little Anita was pushed to the front and everything became about her until Sharon and Tracy were left like dust. If Anita has brought up the idea for them to discuss they probably would have agreed, but it's the way she came in dictating what was going to happen like they should just be grateful to be there and go along with whatever she says. They do have 20 years of anger and bitterness to work through, but I think they can do it, and the concert can still happen.”

Regular poster Soapfan54 added, “Well, what do they want? Anita to hang around so they can throw their little manipulative tirades whenever? Besides, the two ladies agreed between themselves that they were gonna "use" Anita for the opportunity and publicity because she "owed" them; then, they were gonna go their own way afterward. So, it doesn't matter if Anita leaves now (which she definitely should!), 'cause the ladies will still have the opportunity and Anita's paying for it. They're so full of ish!

So what, she left them in the rear view back in the day! Here's their opportunity to stand or fall on their own--without Anita, since they have such an issue with her presence! Ya can't always go back again, and this is one of those times when ya can't!”

Senior board member SharikaC commented, “What exactly do Tracy and Sharon want? They're complaining about not wanting to do/hear Anita's suggestions, yet they're not making any suggestions of their own. Do they not have ideas of their own? Are they just supposed to wing it? Maybe that's why their careers went nowhere after Anita went solo. Anita was willing to try new things, take chances. That's probably why she was successful. Sounds to me that Tracy and Sharon want to stay stuck in the past. Sounds to me that they were the problem, but want to put all the blame on Anita because she achieved the success they wished they had. Maybe Anita should just go back home. Like these bitter ladies said, Anita doesn't need the money. Anita certainly don't need the aggravation. She can go home to Vernon and her family. Let these bitter Bettys be miserable for the rest of their lives.”

There is little hope among the fans that the three ladies can let the past be in the past, acknowledge it, and move forward. It’s all too apparent that at best, the ladies will sing again on a stage and get it out of their system before carrying on with their lives. Worst-case scenario, tensions boil over while on stage. If Sharon or Anita walked off live during the concert it would be the utter embarrassment of everyone concerned.

Maybe Anita should just be happy that she reconnected with her sisters and really did her best to make things right after all those years. Join the conversation and add your comments below.
