Killer Y&R star lands primetime role

The Young and the Restless' Chris McKenna (Detective Harding) left the CBS soap with a literal bang, and now he's set to pump up the drama on NCIS: New Orleans.

The Young and the Restless viewers were shocked to find out that hunky Detective Harding was actually a killer, a storyline twist that took popular portrayer Chris McKenna off the screen this summer. And if you're one of the thousands that misses the actor in action, you're in luck. He'll be appearing on an upcoming episode of NCIS: New Orleans.

McKenna, who's also known in the soap world as One Life to Live's former Joey Buchanan, took to Twitter to announce the news, writing, "Seems the New Orleans PD needed some added muscle. Copy that. Officer Tate en route."

Fans of the NCIS franchise may already recognize McKenna; he appeared as an unnamed CIA Agent on NCIS: Los Angeles in 2010.

Catch new episodes of NCIS: New Orleans Tuesday nights at 10PM ET on CBS.
