Adam Newman returns! Mark Grossman joins The Young and the Restless as Victor's son

The Young and the Restless has found its new Adam Newman: Mark Grossman is stepping into the role previously played by Justin Hartley, Michael Muhney, and Chris Engen.

Fans of The Young and the Restless have been praying for the return of Adam Newman, and the powers that be have granted the wish: sources confirm to Soap Central that Mark Grossman has been cast as Victor Newman's son.

News that the show was looking to recast the character first broke in February, when a casting call went out for an actor to play a stunningly handsome, extremely confident character who's willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. And it turns out, Grossman -- whose credits include Famous In Love, Hustle, and Family Dinner -- fit the bill.

The Maryland native is the fourth actor to play the adult version of Victor's (Eric Braeden) troublemaking son. Previous portrayers include Justin Hartley, who played the character from 2014 to 2016 before being cast on This Is Us and recently said he wanted Y&R to recast the role; Michael Muhney, who won fans' hearts in the role from 2009 to 2014; and Chris Engen, who portrayed Adam from 2008 to 2009.

Adam Newman has a troubled history that includes stealing Sharon's (Sharon Case) baby to give to Ashley (Eileen Davidson), framing Nick (Joshua Morrow) for his "murder," feigning blindness, and accidentally killing young Delia in a hit-and-run and hiding the crime. Despite his shady shenanigans, he has remained a fan favorite character -- and that's even after dying twice in recent years! Adam was presumed dead in a fiery car crash when Muhney was written off the show. And when Hartley left the CBS soap, the character was once again presumed dead, this time trapped in a cabin that Delia's mom, Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson), exploded in flames.

There's no word yet on when Grossman will make his debut as Adam Newman nor how the powers that be will explain Adam's second return from a fiery death. As viewers may recall, Adam returned with a new face (and called himself Gabriel Bingham) after the 2014 car crash, so it's entirely possible he could visit the same facial reconstruction surgeons and make yet another surprise return to Genoa City. If that happens, his face will be entirely different. As for everyone else, they'll just be entirely shocked.
